Position: Janitor (Temporary with the potential to become permanent)

Reports To: Supervisor/Program Manager

Department: Hoover Dam Janitorial

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Pay Rate: $22.68 per hour

($17.75 base pay + $4.93 H/W)

Temporary for 3 months with potential to become permanent

General Function

Responsible for keeping buildings in a clean and orderly condition. Promote sanitary conditions that help inhibit odors and the transference of germs.

Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)

1. Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
2. Gather and empty trash.
3. Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
4. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
5. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
6. Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
7. Mix water and detergents in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
8. Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
9. Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.

11. Graffiti removal

12. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.

13. Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.

14. Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.

15. Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.

16. Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.

17. Follow all safety/OSHA required guidelines.

18. Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

• Work Schedule may vary; position requires flexibility with schedule and days off

• Ability to lift-up to 30 lbs as necessary

• Must be responsible for attendance, punctuality and consistent work performance during scheduled work times.

• Employee will be exposed to various types of cleaning machinery and must be able to meet all physical requirements.

• Speak, read, comprehend and be fully conversant in the English language.

• Must be a responsible individual who is willing and able to follow direction and work with minimal supervision.

• Other Details: Professional office/work and laboratory atmosphere. Employee will be required to lift, carry, walk, sit, push, pull.

• Drug Screen and Background Check: pass with ability to maintain throughout employment.

• Be trained and qualified in custodial type work using modem cleaning tools (buffers, etc.), techniques and be certified in first aid (FA).

• US Citizenship required unless otherwise pre-approved by Contracting Officer.

Minimum Experience

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Minimum 2 years of janitorial/cleaning/related work experience

• Computer Skills: Basic

• Serves as liaison between department and other departments as well as with outside customers, regulatory personnel, and organizations, etc.
