Position Overview

Join a precision manufacturing team utilizing advanced CNC technology to produce complex, tight-tolerance components in a high-volume manufacturing environment. We are seeking an experienced CNC Swiss Lathe Machinist to program, set up, operate, and troubleshoot Swiss-style CNC lathes and multi-axis turn-mill machines.

In this role, you will work with industry-leading equipment including Star ECAS and SR-Series Swiss Lathes and Index G200 Turn-Mill Centers, utilizing Fanuc and Siemens controls to manufacture precision components to exacting customer and engineering specifications. This position requires experience in Swiss machining, CNC programming, machine setup, tooling optimization, and multi-axis machining processes.

Travel & Per Diem
  • Work performed onsite in Carroll, Iowa
  • $150 daily per diem paid 7 days per week for eligible travelers during the duration of the contract
  • Weekly per diem equivalent of $1,050
  • Per diem is intended to help offset food and lodging expenses
  • Experience in a traveling machinist role is beneficial

Compensation & Schedule
  • Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
  • Hours: 50-60+ hours per week available

  • Available Shifts:
    • 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM
    • 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM
    • 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM

    Key Responsibilities
    • Program, set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC Swiss lathes and multi-axis turn-mill machines.
    • Perform complete machine setups including tooling installation, tooling selection, offsets, guide bushing adjustments, workholding configuration, and program adjustments.
    • Set and adjust tool offsets, wear compensation, spindle speeds, feed rates, and machine parameters throughout production runs.
    • Utilize live tooling, sub-spindles, and multi-axis machining functions to perform complex turning, milling, drilling, tapping, and threading operations.
    • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, customer specifications, work instructions, process documentation, and technical requirements.
    • Edit, troubleshoot, and optimize G-code programs to improve cycle times, machine efficiency, process stability, and product quality.
    • Monitor machine performance and production runs while making real-time adjustments to maintain tight tolerances and production requirements.
    • Conduct first-piece, first-article, in-process, and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, thread gauges, gauges, and other precision inspection equipment.
    • Maintain tight tolerances and verify dimensional accuracy throughout production.
    • Perform machine changeovers, tooling replacements, and tooling modifications to support multiple production runs.
    • Support preventative maintenance activities to maximize machine reliability and minimize downtime.
    • Troubleshoot tooling, programming, material, quality, and machining-related issues.
    • Accurately document inspection results, quality records, and production data.
    • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to resolve machining challenges and improve production processes.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through tooling, programming, process optimization, and cycle-time reduction efforts.

    Required Qualifications
    • 8-10+ years of experience operating and setting up CNC Swiss lathes and/or multi-axis turn-mill machines.
    • Strong proficiency with Fanuc and/or Siemens CNC controls.
    • Experience programming, editing, troubleshooting, and optimizing G-code programs.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, technical documentation, customer specifications, and GD&T.
    • Strong understanding of machining fundamentals including tooling selection, feeds, speeds, turning operations, milling operations, and machining parameters.
    • Experience with Swiss-style machining processes.
    • Proven ability to maintain tight tolerances in a precision manufacturing environment.
    • Strong CNC machine setup experience including tooling, offsets, guide bushings, and workholding configuration.
    • Proficiency using precision inspection and measurement equipment including micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, thread gauges, and related instruments.
    • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work overtime and extended hours as production demands require.

    • Advanced knowledge of process optimization and cycle-time improvement techniques.
    • Experience performing turning, milling, drilling, tapping, and threading operations.
    • Exposure to Haas, Mazak, and other CNC machine brands and control systems.
    • Experience working in high-volume precision manufacturing environments.
    • Experience machining to tight tolerances.
    • Familiarity with a variety of CNC equipment including CNC lathes, routers, lasers, burn tables, press brakes, press operations, and CNC saws.
