Job description
Founded in 1852, GSC is a member of the University System of Georgia. The college has a distinctive legacy of excellent scholarship and service. GSC offers nearly 30 degrees, which includes multiple associate and baccalaureate pathways for students. With an enrollment of over 3,100 students, GSC offers an intimate academic setting with state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories. In this setting, students receive individualized attention that only a small college with dedicated faculty and staff can provide.
Job Summary
This position is responsible for teaching five (5) courses per semester and participating in service activities such as program development, course development, program assessment, program accreditation, and committee leadership. The successful applicant will be the inaugural cybersecurity professor at GSC and will be expected to engage in high-quality instruction in a full range of undergraduate Cybersecurity and Information Technology courses, including but not limited to Foundations of Cybersecurity, Network Administration, Cloud Security, Computer Forensics, Computer Networks, and Programming and AI in Cybersecurity.
Responsibilities
Develops and teaches undergraduate courses in Cybersecurity and other Information Technology programs.
Engages in innovative and technology-based approaches to learning and teaching.
Assesses and tracks each student's progress and give feedback to support ongoing success.
Actively engages in promoting the growth of Gordon State College.
Teaches undergraduate courses appropriate to appointment and credentialing.
Plans and conducts classes in a manner conducive to creating an effective learning environment which helps students achieve the educational outcomes set by the college, the standards of the discipline, and
external accrediting agencies.
Compiles, administers and evaluates examinations and assignments appropriate to the educational outcomes of the college. These evaluations should be based exclusively on academic performance.
Serves as academic advisor to students in their department and discipline and maintains required number of office hours each week.
Serves as a mentor to students in their department and discipline.
Serves on faculty committees at the department, college or system level as elected by the faculty or
appointed by the administration.
Supports student activities by serving as a club advisor and/or by attendance at student functions.
Teaches classes that are available at night and off-campus, in-person and online.
Attends commencement.
Required Qualifications
Doctorate of Information Technology (DIT) or equivalent.
Applicants who are currently "All But Dissertation" (ABD) will be considered, but the position strictly requires the completion of all doctoral requirements and conferral of the degree no later than August 1, 2027.
Minimum of two years of college-level teaching
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Information Technology or equivalent.
Current industry-recognized credentials such as CCNA, Security+, Network+, CySA+, and others are preferred.
Industry experience in information technology related to cybersecurity.
Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in Information Technology.
Adequate experience in supervising student projects and thesis papers.
Demonstrated effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Evidence of significant academic research and/or applied experience in Cybersecurity.
Face-to-face and online teaching experiences, with knowledge of Brightspace and Desire (D2L) to Learn platforms.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong writing, verbal, analytic, presentation and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of classroom practices, teaching methodologies, assessment systems, and educational technology.
Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
