Job description

Company: KYA
Location: Santa Ana, CA
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
The Director of IT & Systems at KYA is a critical executive-level partner responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of our entire technological ecosystem. This role oversees two distinct but interconnected pillars: IT Infrastructure (the foundational hardware, security, and connectivity) and Business Systems (the software, data, and workflows that drive our revenue).
As KYA continues its trajectory as a leader in specialized contracting and facility modernization, this Director will ensure that our technology is not just a "support function," but a competitive advantage that enables field-to-office transparency, operational speed, and data-driven decision-making.
II. Expanded Strategic Responsibilities
Technology Governance & Long-Range Planning
  • The 3-Year Roadmap: Lead the discovery and implementation of a long-term technology strategy. This includes anticipating KYA's needs as we scale in the public works sector, ensuring our systems can handle increased project complexity and compliance requirements.
  • Fiscal Stewardship: Manage the total cost of ownership (TCO) for all technology. This involves overseeing CAPEX (hardware lifecycle, server refreshes) and OPEX (SaaS subscriptions, licensing) while ensuring that every dollar spent aligns with a measurable business outcome.
  • Vendor & Partner Management: Act as the primary negotiator for all technology-related contracts. Manage relationships with ISPs, Managed Service Providers (MSPs), and software vendors to ensure KYA receives "white-glove" service and favorable pricing.
Business Systems Architecture & Optimization
  • ERP & CRM Lifecycle: Serve as the internal "Product Owner" for our core enterprise systems. You will lead the charge on system migrations, version upgrades, and custom integrations to ensure that our financial and project management data flows seamlessly.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Work closely with the Finance and Operations departments to build advanced reporting dashboards. Your goal is to provide the executive team with real-time visibility into WIP (Work in Progress), labor efficiency, and project margins.
  • Field-to-Office Connectivity: Optimize the mobile tech stack used by our field crews. Ensure that project data captured on-site is instantly accessible to office personnel, reducing administrative lag and billing cycles.
Infrastructure, Security, & Risk Mitigation
  • Cybersecurity Resilience: In an era of increasing threats, you will lead our cybersecurity posture. This includes implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), regular vulnerability assessments, and employee "phishing" simulations to protect KYA's intellectual property and financial assets.
  • Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery: Design and test a robust disaster recovery plan. Ensure that in the event of a breach or natural disaster, KYA's critical data is backed up and our operations can be restored with minimal downtime.
  • Compliance Leadership: Navigate the complexities of data privacy and industry-specific regulations (e.g., CCPA, PCI, or specialized public works data requirements), ensuring KYA remains fully compliant.
Team Leadership & Culture
  • Mentorship & Growth: Direct a multi-disciplinary team of IT specialists and system analysts. Foster a culture of "Extreme Ownership" where the tech team views itself as a service organization dedicated to the success of our field and office staff.
  • Change Management: Act as the primary advocate for digital transformation. You will not only implement new tools but also lead the training and cultural shift required to ensure those tools are adopted and utilized to their full potential.

Candidate Profile & Technical Requirements
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the Construction, Engineering, or Specialized Contracting industries.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration. An MBA or relevant technical certifications (PMP, CISSP, ITIL) are highly desirable.
  • System Expertise: Proven experience managing high-tier ERP and CRMs (e.g. Sage, Procore, or HubSpot).
  • Soft Skills: Must possess the "executive presence" to report to the C-Suite, combined with the "boots on the ground" humility to troubleshoot with a field foreman.

Salary & Total Rewards (Santa Ana Market)
  • Base Salary: $150,000 - $235,000 (Commensurate with experience)
  • Incentives: Performance-based annual bonus (10-15% target).
  • ESOP: As an employee-owned company, KYA offers a unique wealth-building opportunity through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision; 401K; and a culture that values Kommunity and building relationships.
