VCU College of Engineering โ€“ Senior Engineering Faculty Member

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) College of Engineering is pleased to announce a Strategic Senior Faculty position. This position is part of a universityโ€‘wide initiative to recruit highโ€‘impact tenured faculty members to support our rapidly growing, transformative research portfolio.

We invite applications for an exceptionally accomplished tenured faculty member who can further elevate our college's research capabilities in one or more of the following thrust areas:

  1. Artificial Intelligence, Autonomous Systems, and Computing
  2. Human Health and Medicine
  3. Sustainability: Materials, Energy & Environment

Candidates with meritorious research accomplishments in any of these areas, or related areas such as robotics, cybersecurity, or manufacturing, will be considered. The successful candidate will be appointed to one of our five academic departments: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Life Science Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Teaching: Teach courses within the College of Engineering curriculum and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  2. Research: Maintain an established research record with international reputation and external funding; demonstrate collaborative research and scholarly activity.
  3. Service: Engage in service activities for the department, college, university, and professional scientific organizations; contribute to outreach efforts to the local community.
  4. Clinical: When appropriate, participate in collaborative clinical activities in scholarship and service.
Application Process

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related science field.
  • Academic accomplishments commensurate with appointment at the level of Full Professor or exceptionally qualified Associate Professor.
  • Outstanding record of scholarship in one or more of the advertised research thrust areas.
  • International reputation as a leading researcher, evidenced by awards such as society fellow status or membership in a national academy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an inclusive environment with faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds.
  • Commitment to highโ€‘quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Experience leading or contributing to large, multiโ€‘investigator research projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience as director or principal investigator of a highโ€‘impact national or international research center or institute.
  • Record of industry collaboration or technology transfer.
  • Commitment to community engagement and enhancing the universityโ€™s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
