Job Description SummaryAs a Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and programming a small module or a large component and designing a feature, set of features, or whole feature area. You will work independently and contribute to the immediate team and to other teams across business. You may also lead design discussions in a limited manner.
You will be a key contributor to the design, development, deployment and support of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) solutions such as Proficy/PFMD and Plant Apps across various shops within GE Aerospace. You will leverage your technical expertise to solve challenging problems, mentor junior engineers, and drive best practices in software engineering.Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge in MES products (Proficy, Plantapps etc) and the manufacturing industry, ensuring operational stability and compliance.
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, reliable, and secure software applications and systems.
  • Architect and build robust APIs, microservices, and data processing pipelines.
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and other engineers to define technical requirements and translate them into actionable plans.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards, performance, and security best practices.
  • Execution and design of Testing Scenarios for software development
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex software defects and performance issues in production environments.
  • Identify opportunities for necessary changes, lead change programs impacting critical processes, and innovate new processes or technologies to add value to GE Aerospace.
  • Support L3 and L2 operational activities as required related to disaster recovery, cybersecurity, EVM, and other infrastructure support activities.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies, tools, and processes to improve development efficiency and product quality.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing, deployment, and operational support.
  • Contribute to the strategic technical direction of the team and department.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college with minimum of 4 years of professional experience OR Associates degree with minimum of 7 years of professional experience OR High School Diploma with minimum of 9 years of professional experience
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience insoftware developmentwith a strong emphasis on building enterprise-grade applications.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with MES products.
  • Note: Military experience is equivalent to professional experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Expert proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, C/C++, Go, or JavaScript (Node.js).
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Solid understanding of software architecture patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience with PTC ThingWorx Thing development
  • Expert proficiency with Proficy workflow client workflow builder
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Strong experience with SQL Server 2022 database scripting
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.

  • Domain Expertise: Strong knowledge of manufacturing business processes and legacy MES systems, specifically Proficy and TipQA, with at least 2 years of experience maintaining and supporting MES solutions.
