What is a CX consultant?

A CX Consultant, or Customer Experience Consultant, is a professional who helps organizations improve the way they interact with and serve their customers. They analyze current customer journeys, identify pain points, and recommend strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. CX Consultants often use data, customer feedback, and industry best practices to design solutions that create positive, consistent experiences across all touchpoints. Their work ultimately helps businesses retain customers and grow revenue.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CX consultant?

To thrive as a CX Consultant, you need a solid understanding of customer experience strategies, journey mapping, and analytics, often supported by a background in business, marketing, or related fields. Familiarity with CRM platforms, customer feedback tools, and analytics software such as Salesforce, Qualtrics, or Adobe Experience Cloud is typically required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help you build trust and drive change within client organizations. These skills are essential to effectively analyze customer needs, recommend improvements, and implement impactful CX initiatives for business growth.

How does a CX consultant typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve customer experience?

As a CX Consultant, you’ll frequently work alongside marketing, product, customer support, and IT teams to identify and address touchpoints impacting the customer journey. Collaboration involves leading workshops, analyzing feedback, and co-creating solutions to enhance customer satisfaction. Effective communication and the ability to translate customer insights into actionable strategies are key, as you’ll often serve as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders. This collaborative environment not only enriches project outcomes but also offers diverse learning opportunities for career growth.

Job description

The short version

You love figuring out why customers do what they do (and then proving it with data). You're the person who turns a messy pile of survey responses, interview notes, and CRM exports into a story a room full of executives can't stop nodding at. And you're genuinely curious about what AI can do to make that work faster and sharper. If that's you, keep reading.

About the work (and us)

We're a growing consulting firm that's fun, flexible, and more than a little obsessed with our clients (some of the world's most recognizable brands). We help them define and realize real business results through strategy, research, and pragmatic execution. We speak customer for a living.

We're looking for a versatile Customer Experience (CX) Consultant who pairs a passion for customer experience with real analytical horsepower and a gift for data storytelling. You're a strategic thinker and a hands-on doer, equally at home leading a client workshop, running qualitative research, digging into Voice of Customer (VoC) feedback, or building the visualization that finally makes an insight click. You bring curiosity about artificial intelligence (AI) and a willingness to experiment with emerging AI and generative AI tools to accelerate research, sharpen analysis, and elevate the client experience.

What you'll do

Other duties may come up too. That's consulting.

Customer Experience Strategy

▶    Lead and support CX engagements, including journey mapping, current-state assessments, and roadmap development.

▶    Run and take part in executive interviews, employee and customer focus groups, and client workshops to surface challenges and define future-state experiences.

▶    Identify CX opportunities using VoC, customer behavior data, and industry benchmarks.

▶    Develop and deliver client-facing materials, including CX roadmaps, governance frameworks, and communication strategies.

▶    Define KPIs and success measures for customer experience initiatives.

Data & Insights

▶    Collect, clean, and process structured and unstructured data from multiple sources (surveys, CRM, operational data).

▶    Use AI and generative AI tools to speed up data collection and processing, deepen analysis, and raise the speed and quality of insights and client deliverables.

▶    Build dashboards and reports in Excel, Power BI, or Tableau that support storytelling and decision-making.

▶    Apply statistical techniques (regression, weighting, bias adjustment) to back up recommendations.

▶    Translate insights into compelling stories that move client decisions and partner with stakeholders to turn findings into actionable recommendations

Cross-Functional Consulting

▶    Collaborate with business, product, and IT stakeholders to align customer strategies with data capabilities.

▶    Spot and resolve data quality issues that get in the way of good insights.

▶    Juggle multiple projects while delivering high-quality work on time.

▶    Contribute to proposal development and client presentations as needed.

Who you are

Our five values aren't wall art. They're how we hire and how we work. You'll fit right in if you're:

▶    A creative problem solver. You bring structure to ambiguous problems and aren't afraid to test, iterate, and learn.

▶    Client obsessed. You genuinely care about getting it right for the people you serve.

▶    Confident while humble. You hold strong opinions loosely, ask good questions, and give credit freely.

▶    Passionate about growth. Yours and your clients'. You seek out feedback and fill your own skill gaps.

▶    Fun, flexible, and collaborative. You pitch in wherever needed and keep the mood good when the work gets hard.

You're a self-starter who is resourceful and likes to learn, comfortable working independently, and someone we can trust to run with things.

What you'll bring

▶    Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

▶    3+ years in consulting, customer experience, or strategy.

▶    2+ years in data analysis, business intelligence, or data storytelling.

▶    Experience conducting or supporting primary and secondary customer research.

▶    Strong written and verbal communication skills.

▶    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Power Query, Power Pivot), PowerPoint, and visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).

▶    Working knowledge of survey methodologies, sampling, and data weighting.

▶    Familiarity with statistical methods, regression analysis, and forecasting.

▶    Curiosity about AI. A willingness to experiment with AI and generative AI tools in research, analysis, and client deliverables. (Learner mindset welcome; mastery not required.)

▶    Experience with VoC or Experience Management platforms (Qualtrics, Medallia) is a plus.

▶    Willingness to travel up to 25%.

The details

This is a full-time, salaried W2 position with very competitive benefits and (we'll say it) a genuinely great team to work with.
