Cvor Manager information

What is a CVOR manager?

CVOR Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the operations of the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) in hospitals or surgical centers. Their duties include managing surgical staff, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, coordinating schedules, and maintaining equipment and supplies. They play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe delivery of cardiovascular surgical care, often working closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

What are some common challenges a CVOR manager faces in coordinating surgical teams and how can they be addressed?

As a CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) Manager, one common challenge is ensuring effective communication and coordination among multidisciplinary surgical teams, particularly during high-acuity cardiovascular procedures. Balancing staff scheduling, managing equipment availability, and maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols can also be demanding. Addressing these challenges typically involves implementing clear protocols, fostering a culture of open communication, and providing ongoing training to staff. Proactive leadership and collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff are key to ensuring smooth operations and optimal patient outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CVOR manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) Manager, you need a solid background in perioperative nursing, cardiovascular procedures, and leadership, typically supported by an RN license and several years of surgical experience. Familiarity with surgical scheduling systems, inventory management software, and certification such as CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) are highly valuable. Exceptional communication, problem-solving abilities, and team management skills help you lead surgical teams and coordinate complex cases. These competencies ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of the cardiovascular surgical suite, directly impacting patient outcomes and staff performance.

Job description

Manager, CVOR / Open Heart Surgery Leadership Opportunity

Leading Not-for-Profit Health System | 4-Suite Open-Heart & Cardiovascular Program / 70% of NorCal Open Heart procedures

Sacramento, California ยท Full-Time, Exempt ยท Varied Shifts, Weekends as Needed ยท On-Site, Northern California | Relocation Available

If youโ€™ve built CVOR teams before โ€” this is your chance to build one the right way.

This established cardiovascular surgical program supports approximately 70% of NORCALs open-heart cases across 4 CVOR suites. Leadership is committed to stabilizing staffing, transitioning to a mixed care delivery model, and elevating surgical quality and operational efficiency.

What Youโ€™ll Lead

Our client โ€” a Forbes- and Newsweek-recognized, not-for-profit health system and one of Northern Californiaโ€™s premier destinations for complex heart surgery โ€” is seeking a Manager, CVOR / Open Heart Surgery to lead the nursing and surgical teams of a four-suite cardiovascular operating room that performs a large share of the regionโ€™s open-heart procedures across both adult and pediatric cardiac cases. Youโ€™ll lead a team of 20-plus RNs through a staffing-model transition โ€” with direct authority over assignments, case-volume distribution, workflow, and financial performance โ€” while partnering closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthesiology, and perfusion to keep the most complex cases running safely and on schedule. You will function as the clinical and operational anchor of a multidisciplinary heart team, not as an isolated administrator buried under paperwork. This is a service line where your standards, your judgment, and your team-building set the tempo for how the most demanding cases in the building get done โ€” from day one.

Mandatory Qualifications
  • Active California RN license in good standing.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current BLS (Healthcare Provider) certification.
  • Demonstrated CVOR / open-heart operating room clinical experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of open-heart / cardiovascular RN leadership experience (charge, supervisor, or manager level) โ€” this program is not a place to learn open heart on the job.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN or MSN
  • Pediatric cardiac experience alongside adult open-heart.
  • CNOR or related perioperative certification.
  • Track record leading multidisciplinary teams and process-improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency with OR scheduling, EHR, and perioperative workflow systems.

Our client is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. EOE/M/F/Disability/Veterans.
