Job description

JOB OVERVIEW:
The Finishing Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the swine finishing department, ensuring optimal animal husbandry, performance, and adherence to company protocols. This role involves coordinating tasks with the Service Manager, managing staff, maintaining strict bio-security and safety standards, and overseeing equipment maintenance. The Finishing Lead ensures that all finishing technicians follow CVFF's process manuals to produce high-quality pork while maintaining environmental compliance.
This position will be located in Redkey, Indiana. The operation will be achieved by implementing CVFF established production criteria.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations & Logistics: Schedules daily/weekly tasks, executes monthly supply ordering, and coordinates between departments.
Production & Animal Welfare: Ensures proper feeding processes, implements technical protocols, and tests new processes to maximize finishing performance.
Team Leadership & Training: Responsible for training Finishing Technicians, ensuring proper husbandry skills, and conducting weekly performance reviews.
Personnel Management: Works with the Service Manager and HR on staffing levels, hiring, performance evaluations, and termination. Approves time and attendance for farm staff.
Safety & Compliance: Maintains strict bio-security protocols, ensures compliance with environmental laws, and maintains a safe working environment by providing equipment and training.
Maintenance: Ensures all machinery, vehicles, and equipment are accounted for and properly maintained.
Logistics: Performs duties as described in the CVFF process manual and travels between sites as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education/Experience: High school diploma/GED preferred; 1-2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Multi-task oriented, team player with strong problem-solving abilities (data collection, analysis, and conclusion drawing).
  • Communication: Ability to read, write, and speak simple sentences in English.
  • Company Alignment: Must understand that the Company is a producer of high-quality pork.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel: Required as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Meet all bio-security requirements as outlined by Animal Care policy/ procedure.
  • Consistent and reliable adherence to Animal Welfare requirements and Code of Conduct.
  • Adhere to CVFF/ CLEMENS FOOD GROUP Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Complete all other tasks as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Stationary Position: Must be able to remain in a stationary position for more than 85% of the time.
  • Moving/ Traversing: The person in this position needs to frequently move around the Production areas of the Barns/ Farm and will be moving/ traversing more than 85% of the time to attend to the care needs of the animals.
  • Operating/ Activating/ Using/ Preparing/ Inspecting/ Placing/ Positioning: Frequently utilizes animal movement techniques, etc.
  • Ascend/ Descend/ Traverse: Occasionally ascends/ descends a ladder to work atop equipment and/ or provide routine maintenance of compost structures.
  • Position Self to Move: Frequently positions self to complete tasks by reaching under/ around animals, into/ out of animal crates/ pens, remove material from the floor/ walls
  • Communicate/ Detect/ Identify/ Exchange Information: Constant visual monitoring of finishing pigs/ animal health and well-being, frequent communication with Team Members regarding animal movements, health status, task completion, etc. Shares information regarding task completion with Farm management.
  • Move/ Transport/ Install/ Remove: Frequently moves equipment/ animals weighing up to 55-75 pounds, occasionally moves equipment/ animals weighing up to 75-300 pounds, rarely moves equipment/ animals weighing up to 300+ pounds. Frequently transports equipment/ materials/ animals through various areas of the Barn weighing 50 pounds or more. Frequently utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) including animal sort boards weighing up to 25 pounds and requiring the ability to twist, bend, and maneuver around the body.

Work Environment: Frequent exposure to loud noises, dirty/ dusty environments, hot and cold temperatures, outdoor environments, animal dander, manure, blood.
