Overview
The Customs Coordinator is responsible for providing support and coordinating the day-to-day operations of international shipments. This is an entry-level role focused on supporting our Customs Supervisor with tasks such as tracking international air and ocean shipments, coordination with brokers, and customs entry auditing for shipments ranging in size from parcel to container. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Obtaining and retaining invoice documentation as provided by our vendors
  • Reviewing invoices for accuracy and ensuring all customs requirements are met.
  • Prepare and review import/export documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable customs laws and regulations (e.g., U.S. Customs and Border Protection requirements)
  • Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers to ensure timely clearance of goods
  • Learn and assist with classifying products using HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) codes and determine applicable duties and taxes
  • Assist at maintaining classification databases and communication with company stakeholders
  • Monitor and track shipments to ensure on-time customs clearance and release for delivery and resolve delays related to customs clearance
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal departments (procurement, logistics, finance) regarding shipment status and compliance issues
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in documentation or shipment details
  • Support audits and ensure proper documentation retention for compliance purposes
  • Stay current on changes in trade regulations, tariffs, and international shipping requirements
  • Assist with tariff reconciliations
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in an ever-changing tariff environment

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred
  • 1+ year customs or logistics experience preferred
  • Demonstrates attention to detail; strong verbal and written communication skills; and is highly organized with respect to details and information accuracy
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel
