Job description

Pay Range: $36,153 - $54,129

Position Summary

TThe Entry Writer I position works within the CHB team overseeing the accurate and timely submission of customs entries for clearance of in-bound cargo through US Customs and facilitating the delivery of freight to customers.  The Entry Writer serves as a customer advocate and must possess good customer service skills.  Incumbents in this position may be promoted from administrative operations positions to learn to become an entry writer.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive and review documentation to input and transmit data for CBP release of shipments.
  • Follow SOP’s for each customer on the correct method and data required for preparing an entry.
  • Use product files for identification of HTS details on the commercial invoice
  • Work with other team members or supervisor on entry tasks for the release of cargo and exceptions to established clearance requirements
  • Organize their work to identify the status of every file through every phase of the CBP entry process.
  • Confirm to customers the release details through pre-established communications protocols
  • Responsible for meeting KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) for Import operations
  • Track and trace shipments and coordinate with steamship lines, freight forwarders and CFS on the availability of imported shipments
  • Arrange with trucking companies the pick-up and delivery of freight
  • Coordinate with supervisors’ delivery exceptions and special delivery instructions
  • Handle accounting processes as they apply to CHB including the issuance of invoices to customers or overseas offices as well as the processing of payment requisitions.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 0-2 years of experience and/or training in an import operation
  • Working in an office environment, a plus.

Essential Job Functions

  • Primarily working in an office environment, spending extended periods seated at a desk and regularly using computer equipment.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries office supplies, files, or equipment, typically weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with internal and external customers in person and over the phone and email
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while paying attention to detail
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite programs and other programs to produce status report and other documents
