Job description

Main Sail LLC is  seeking an  SAP Workflow Specialist to design and implement workflow automation in S/4HANA.
Leads the design, configuration, and optimization of automated business processes within the S/4HANA digital core. Responsible for the transition from legacy SAP Business Workflows to the modern S/4HANA Flexible Workflow framework. This role bridges the gap between functional business requirements and technical execution, ensuring that approval cycles for critical documents (Purchase Orders, Invoices, Journal Entries, etc.) are efficient, transparent, and compliant with federal internal controls.
The Workflow Specialist is responsible for leading workflow architecture, scenario configuration, and technical troubleshooting. Responsibilities include:
Flexible Workflow Configuration & Governance:
  • Architect and configure Flexible Workflow scenarios across assigned process area (P2P, O2C, B2R, H2R), utilizing the Fiori-based "Manage Workflows" applications.
  • Design multi-step approval patterns, including parallel approvals, agent determination rules, and deadline monitoring to ensure process velocity.
  • Configure Business Rule Framework plus (BRFplus) to drive complex workflow routing logic, ensuring that approval paths are dynamically determined based on federal spending limits or organizational hierarchy.
  • Manage Agent Determination, leveraging Responsibilities, Role-based assignments, and custom BAdIs to ensure the right federal official receives the right task at the right time.
Technical Integration & Extensibility:
  • Optimize the My Inbox Fiori App, ensuring a unified task management experience for executives and providing necessary decision-support data within the task UI.
  • Extend standard workflow scenarios by developing custom Condition Expressions and Result Actions using the S/4HANA extensibility framework.
  • Maintain legacy SAP Business Workflows (WF-BATCH) where necessary, ensuring a seamless co-existence and migration path to modern Flexible Workflow.
  • Troubleshoot Workflow Errors, utilizing technical tools such as SWI1, SWIA, and the Workflow Log to resolve bottlenecks and stuck work items.
Compliance & Strategy:
  • Ensure Audit Traceability, designing workflows that capture a complete "Chain of Command" and history of approvals to meet GAO and IG audit requirements.
  • Lead "Fit-to-Standard" Workshops, advising functional teams on how to utilize standard SAP workflow content to minimize custom development and technical debt.
  • Monitor Workflow Performance, using the Workflow Dashboard to identify process bottlenecks and recommend optimizations to reduce cycle times.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in SAP Workflow, with a deep understanding of both S/4HANA Flexible Workflow and classic SAP Business Workflow.
  • Proficiency in BRFplus, specifically for creating decision tables and expressions that drive workflow routing.
  • Strong knowledge of Fiori and OData, specifically related to the My Inbox integration and Push Notifications.
  • Experience with ABAP Object-Oriented Programming, capable of developing custom BAdIs for agent determination and workflow conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex "If-Then" business logic into technical workflow schemas.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficiency in workflow administration codes (SWDD, PFTC, SWU3) and modern Fiori configuration tools.
Federal-Specific Requirements:
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance is required.
  • Experience with Federal Approval Authorities, ensuring system-enforced Segregation of Duties (SoD) during the procurement and payment lifecycle.
Location:  Remote
Period of Performance: Anticipated start in June 2026 with 1 year base PoP. Expectation of multiple option years for client to exercise.
** Citizenship requirements with active eligibility from government background investigation required.**
