Job description

Summary
The experienced finisher is expected to perform all parts of the process: grading, set up, custom formwork, concrete placement, cleaning tools, stripping formwork, and cutting slabs. An experienced finisher has noteworthy flatwork experience and demonstrates the ability to finish virtually any commercial concrete pour. Understanding the many variables affecting the finishing process is critical to success. An experienced finisher can effectively use all hand tools, including various finish trowels, floats, and brooms or rakes, to achieve a specified finish. Understanding and proficiently using specialized machines to expedite the finishing process is critical to this role. Communicating effectively with supervisors, teammates, and other trades is expected, as well as providing training and development to teammates who demonstrate motivation and interest in advancing their skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pour, level, and finish freshly placed concrete.
  • Understand and achieve specified finishes, with attention to detail and quality.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including a hard hat, high-visibility apparel, and additional protection as required by the task.
  • Work in a variable environment, both indoors and outdoors. When required, work during inclement weather, including extreme heat/cold.
  • Communicate effectively with your crew lead, foreman, and superintendent on safety, quality specifications, and problem-solving.
  • Safely perform labor tasks on concrete construction sites, including using power and standard hand tools.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including a hard hat, high-visibility apparel, and additional protection as required by the task.
  • Utilize measurement and carpentry skills to build custom formwork.
  • Moving materials by hand, preparing for concrete placement, installation of shoring, and maintaining clean, well-organized job sites.
  • Setting and placing forms, building and dismantling formwork, erecting and dismantling shoring, and placing concrete into forms.
  • Utilize elevation specifications to accurately set up a laser leveling system and establish grade and grade lines.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications

  • 2-4+ years of consistent concrete finishing experience.
  • Leather work boots (steel or composite toe protection are recommended)

Work Environment/Physical Demand
This position works in a typical construction site environment. This position requires long periods of standing and you should be able to lift 80 pounds.

Position type and expected hours of work.
This is a full-time field position. Typical hours will range from 45-50 hours per week and are subject to change. This role requires working nontypical days and irregular hours based on construction schedules.

Travel
This position reports directly to each job site and requires personal transportation. Job sites beyond a 30-mile radius of the main office are eligible for mileage reimbursement at the current federal rate. Additionally, for projects requiring a commute longer than 90 miles from the main office, employees are eligible for per diem, the amount of which will be determined by the project.
