Job description

Job Title: Facilities Attendant | Saturday & Sunday | 7:30am-1:00pm

Department:  Facilities

Position Summary  

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Facilities Assistant position at the Eugene Family YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined, while ensuring the facility is clean, safe and welcoming, by completing all duties on the daily schedule and maintaining assigned areas and equipment. 

Essential Functions  

  • Perform routine custodial tasks, including: 

  • Replacing soap, paper towels, and other supplies as needed 

  • Removing interior and exterior litter as needed 

  • Cleaning mirrors, windows, and glass daily 

  • Emptying trash and wiping trash containers 

  • Vacuuming all carpeted areas 

  • Cleaning and disinfecting toilets, urinals, sinks, and showers throughout the day and as needed 

  • Scrubbing and mopping hard floor surfaces to maintain cleanliness 

  • Dusting high and low surfaces, including horizontal surfaces and edges 

  • Cleaning stairwells and running track areas as assigned 

  • Conduct regular spot checks and touch-up cleaning, including: 

  • Restrooms and locker rooms 

  • Carpet and tile flooring 

  • Exercise rooms 

  • Hallways and stairs 

  • Garbage areas 

  • Assist with deep cleaning projects such as carpet and tile cleaning as scheduled. 

  • Support maintenance personnel with janitorial tasks as needed. 

  • Perform daily quality checks aligned with designated “Critical to Service” areas to ensure spaces are clean, orderly, and well stocked with supplies. 

  • Interact regularly with members and guests using tact, professionalism, and cultural awareness, building trust and providing a positive member experience. 

  • Work independently to solve problems, apply training and best practices in new ways, and recommend improvements when appropriate. 

  • Remain detail-oriented, meet deadlines, take initiative, and support efficient facility operations. 

  • Complete all required trainings by assigned due dates. 

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with members, donors, and volunteers. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Must be age 18 or older 

  • Excellent customer service skills. 

  • Must be available for 7:30am-1:00pm | Saturdays and Sundays

  • Must be able to service Men's Locker-room

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Previous experience as a janitor or custodian for a large publicly-facing facility (like a gym, health club, hospital, school district or university) 

  • Bilingual conversational skills (English/Spanish) 

  • Previous experience working at a YMCA

  • Moderate exposure to infections.  

  • Subject to both indoor and outdoor conditions.
