Custodian
Location: Willy Street Co-op North 2817 N. Sherman Ave, Madison, WI
Status: Hourly non-exempt, represented, Part time 16 hours / week, 1:30pm - 9:30pm
Supervision: No direct supervisory responsibility

About the Role:
As a Custodian at one of our locations, you will help shape our customers' entire shopping experience by giving them a positive first and last impression. You will be focused on performing the full range of cleaning tasks in assigned areas in order to provide an appealing and safe environment for the Co-op's internal and external customers.

What You'll Do:
You will be responsible for making sure the Co-op is clean, neat, in order, free from clutter, and safe for everyone. You will work collaboratively with other staff and do the following:
  • Perform general, routine, custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies
  • Perform routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies
  • Empty trash receptacles, dispose of trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bag trash for proper disposal
  • Ensure that recycling is appropriate separated from trash and put in the appropriate place for disposal
  • Follow Co-op procedures, guidelines, and methods for cleaning, and utilize approved chemicals, supplies, tools and equipment
  • Report needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment for all internal and external customers
  • Comply with Health Department Regulations and follow safe food handling practices
  • Greet and offer assistance to customers
  • Treat people fairly, consistently and with respect
  • Abide by all Co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other company documents
  • Participate in required training and meetings
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by a supervisor

Work Environment: Fast paced retail environment with food service equipment and coolers and in cold/hot working conditions (i.e. cooler or near heated surfaces). Other high to moderate noise including but not limited to computers, cash registers, paging, telephones, music and human voices.
