    About the Role

Lead technical delivery and provide hands-on engineering leadership for a pod responsible for major areas of the flooranddecor.com platform. Act as a senior full-stack contributor (React, Java) and primary technical escalation while driving platform decisions, engineering best practices, and responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

    Job DescriptionRole

The Lead eCommerce Engineer provides hands-on technical leadership for an engineering pod owning a major area of the flooranddecor.com platform. This role combines full-stack engineering (React front-end, Java back-end), platform ownership on large-scale commerce systems, and day-to-day technical mentorship and escalation.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Lead technical design, planning, and delivery of features for the pod, ensuring alignment with architecture and business priorities
    • Break down complex initiatives into well-scoped technical workstreams and guide the team through implementation
    • Serve as primary escalation for complex technical issues, production incidents, and cross-team dependencies
    • Remain hands-on across front-end, back-end services, and integrations, modeling best practices
    • Drive platform-level decisions for enterprise commerce platforms (e.g., Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WebSphere Commerce)
    • Partner with the eCommerce Architect on integration patterns, service boundaries, and technical standards
    • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical mentorship to engineers
    • Drive adoption of engineering best practices: code review standards, automated testing, CI/CD, and observability
    • Establish guidelines for responsible use of AI-assisted development tools and lead root cause analysis for production issues
    • Communicate technical progress, risks, and trade-offs to senior stakeholders
    Requirements
    • 7-10 years of professional software development experience with demonstrated full-stack expertise
    • 1-3 years of technical or team leadership experience (lead/staff responsibilities)
    • Expert-level proficiency with React and modern front-end architecture
    • Strong Java back-end development and architecture experience
    • Experience leading technical design discussions, code reviews, and Agile/Scrum delivery at the team level
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Deep, hands-on experience with enterprise eCommerce platforms such as Salesforce Commerce Cloud or WebSphere Commerce
    • Experience with platform migrations, replatforming, or modernization on enterprise commerce platforms
    • Practical experience integrating AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) into a team’s workflow
    • Familiarity with microservices, headless/composable commerce architectures, and cloud-native deployments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
    • Track record of mentoring engineers into senior and lead-level roles
    • Strong communication skills and ability to present technical plans to senior technology leadership
    • Performance-focused mindset for customer experience
    Travel
    • Occasional travel required: up to 5% (vendor sites, industry conferences)
    • Bonus opportunities and career advancement
