Job description

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the District Dir-Instruction (Adult Education), the Senior Curriculum Specialist- Adult Education - ABE/ASE provides districtwide instructional leadership and curriculum support for Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Adult Secondary Education (ASE), including language arts, mathematics, and Spanish-language High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation. This position leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum, instructional materials, course design, and assessment practices aligned with City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) instructional standards, Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) requirements, and established adult education best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of ABE and ASE curriculum in mathematics, language arts, and Spanish-language HSE preparation for districtwide use.

Ensures the curriculum aligns with the ICCB Adult Education Content Standards, the National Reporting System (NRS) Educational Functioning Levels, and the City Colleges of Chicago instructional frameworks.

Develops and enhances curriculum guides, instructional resources, assessments, and course materials to support effective instruction.

Reviews and supports the implementation of Brightspace learning management system (LMS) course templates, ensuring alignment with district instructional design and quality standards.

Assists in evaluating, selecting, and implementing textbooks, digital tools, and instructional materials aligned with adult education instructional goals.

Provides instructional coaching, mentoring, and support to ABE/ASE instructors to improve instructional effectiveness and student outcomes while supporting high-quality teacher development aligned with CCC's "Raising the Bar on Adult Education" initiative.

Models effective instructional strategies aligned with districtwide curriculum frameworks through targeted demonstration activities and facilitated classroom-based instructional practices to support curriculum implementation and instructional consistency.

Plans and delivers professional development and training aligned with district instructional priorities and adult education best practices.

Supports instructors in implementing evidence-based instructional strategies, including literacy, numeracy, and bilingual instructional approaches.

Monitors and promotes consistency in districtwide ABE/ASE curriculum implementation, instructional practices, and instructional standards across campuses and programs.

Communicates regularly with instructors and administrators regarding curriculum implementation, instructional expectations, and professional development opportunities.

Collaborates with Adult Education leadership, campus administrators, and instructional staff to identify curriculum priorities and instructional support needs.

Participates in districtwide curriculum planning, instructional initiatives, and program improvement efforts.

Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support program effectiveness and student success.

Maintains organized records related to curriculum development, instructional support, and professional development activities.

Supports implementation and effective use of instructional technology, including Brightspace and related instructional systems.

Assists instructors in interpreting assessment data to inform curriculum alignment, instructional planning, and program-level instructional improvement.

Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.

Performs other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Adult Education, Curriculum, Instruction, Education, Mathematics, English, Spanish, TESOL, or related field.

A minimum of four years of successful adult education classroom teaching experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of management.

Spanish language proficiency preferred.

Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, instructional planning, or supporting curriculum implementation and instructional improvement.

Experience with Learning Management Systems required (Brightspace preferred).

Demonstrated experience teaching and supporting instruction in comparable educational environments.

Knowledge of the National Reporting System (NRS), Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) standards, and resources of the Adult Learning Resource Center (ALRC).

Knowledge of classroom observation methodologies and constructive instructional feedback practices.

Knowledge of instructional and program design practices that promote innovation, collaboration, structured implementation, and shared accountability across instructional teams.

Understanding of adult learning theory and high-quality professional development practices.

Familiarity with evidence-based literacy, numeracy, and bilingual instructional strategies.

Strong written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.

Effective collaboration and teamwork skills.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated skill in planning and facilitating adult learning communities and collaborative professional learning structures.

Ability and willingness to travel frequently between campuses.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
