University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB ("UEC") supports the university's educational mission by providing quality services that complement the instructional program. The University depends upon UEC to provide services that cannot be supported with state funds. We're responsible for business enterprises on campus including, but not limited to, dining, bookstore, convenience store, and vending services. We also serve as the grantee for federal, state, and local funding for research and sponsored projects.

Position Summary

Temporary, Full Time, Non-Exempt, Benefited position through 6/30/2026 (Appointment may be renewed annually based upon availability of funds, availability of work and satisfactory job performance). 

Salary: $3,640.00-$4,333.00 per month.

Location: CSUSB Campus.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week. Typically Monday through Friday 9:00AM-5:30PM. Some nights and weekends may be required.

Typical Activities

Under minimal supervision of the ITLS Director, the Master Teacher will work independently to:

Responsibilities:
  • Provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for children enrolled in our program.
  • Prepare and implement daily activities tailored to the individual needs of each child and be willing to adjust the curriculum as necessary.
  • Be a DAP role model of effective teacher-child interaction in the implementation of the daily operation of the program.
  • Able to articulate program goals and philosophy and apply them to working with the children and other adults working in the program.
  • Manage children's behavior using positive guidance techniques and limit setting.
  • Plan for and facilitate smooth transitions for the children.
  • Ensure that all children are being treated with dignity and respect.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Work with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for lab students, interns, and new staff, demonstrating best practices in positive guidance, curriculum implementation, and professional conduct.
  • Support the professional growth of students and interns by providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for reflection.
  • Communicate consistently with the Director regarding the functioning of the classroom (progress, problems, and concerns).
  • Establish positive and productive relationships and communicate effectively with families (approachable, tactful, keeps parents informed, seeks a partnership with parents, work with parents to promote understanding of their child's growth and development).
  • Maintain confidentiality of children and families.
Duties:
  • Oversee daily classroom operations, including schedules and routines.
  • Monitor staff breaks and ensure adequate classroom coverage.
  • Monitor and support diaper changes and toilet learning for each child.
  • Maintain required teacher-to-child ratios at all times.
  • Ensure daily health checks are completed upon children's arrival.
  • Maintain engaging classroom environments, including updated bulletin boards reflecting children's learning.
  • Participate in and lead ongoing staff meetings and professional development.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and support staff in classroom practices and routines.
  • Guide CAFS students and interns in planning and implementing curriculum activities that are responsive to children's interests and developmental levels.
  • Observe and document CAFS student/intern performance and provide constructive, strengths-based feedback.
  • Provide evaluative feedback to the Director regarding staff performance.
  • Ensure developmentally appropriate curriculum is planned and implemented consistently.
  • Maintain child assessments and developmental records; support other staff in doing the same.
  • Maintain and update NAEYC classroom portfolios.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to staff, interns, and students.
  • Participate in parent and staff orientations.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences.
  • Ensure compliance with Title 22 licensing regulations and health and safety requirements; maintain accurate records.
  • Attend trainings and conferences to support ongoing professional growth.
  • Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures, including diapering and toileting protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all classroom and shared spaces (e.g., kitchen, laundry, storage, outdoor areas).
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with mandated reporting laws.

Limited travel may be required for training, conferences and other professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:
    • B.A. in Child Development or related field.
  • Experience:
    • At least one year of experience teaching in or directing an infant-toddler program (preferably, a NAEYC accredited program).
  • Other:
    • Possess a Child Development Permit: Master Teacher or higher or meet the qualifications to obtain upon hiring.
    • Strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education.
    • Working understanding of child development principles with the ability to apply them effectively in a classroom setting.
    • Ability to lead by example and guide others in completing tasks through clear direction and support.
    • Warm, nurturing, and responsive approach when working with children.
    • Effecive organizational and planning skills with attention to detail.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Friendly, helpful, and professional demeanor.
    • Dependable, punctual, flexible, and responsible in meeting job expectations.
    • Ability to recognize and respond to potential developmental or behavioral concerns in children.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in M.A. in Child Development or related field; Site Supervisor permit.
  • Must have Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification, as well as fingerprinting clearance prior to employment.
  • MMR and tdap immunizations; negative TB test within the last one calendar year.
