What is a curriculum developer?

Curriculum Developers are education professionals who design, organize, and update educational programs and materials for schools, organizations, or companies. They analyze educational standards, assess learning needs, and work with teachers or subject matter experts to create effective and engaging instructional content. Their goal is to ensure that curricula meet educational objectives, comply with regulations, and support both teachers and learners in achieving desired outcomes.

What does a curriculum developer do?

A curriculum developer or instructional coordinator helps a school develop and implement a teaching plan with lessons designed to meet the educational standards of the school or district. In this career, you often begin by evaluating the existing system and observing students in the classroom. Your responsibilities as a curriculum developer involve all aspects of instruction, from the textbooks to the teaching methods. You are also involved in staff training programs, whether working with a group or one-on-one to teach instructional techniques. That makes excellent interpersonal skills essential for success in this position. You can find jobs at all grade levels.

How does a curriculum developer typically collaborate with subject matter experts and instructors during the course creation process?

Curriculum Developers work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and instructors to ensure instructional materials are accurate, engaging, and aligned with learning objectives. This collaboration often involves conducting interviews or workshops with SMEs to gather content, reviewing drafts for technical accuracy, and incorporating instructor feedback to enhance clarity and relevance. Effective communication and teamwork are key, as the developer must balance educational standards with practical teaching needs, often revising materials based on iterative feedback. This process ensures the final curriculum is both pedagogically sound and practically applicable for learners.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a curriculum developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Curriculum Developer, you need expertise in instructional design, educational theory, and subject matter knowledge, often supported by a degree in education or a related field. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), digital authoring tools, and curriculum mapping software is typically required. Strong collaboration, project management, and communication skills help you work effectively with educators and stakeholders. These skills ensure the creation of effective, engaging curricula that meet educational standards and learner needs.

Job description

Program Overview:

This comprehensive instructor-led program prepares early-career professionals for enterprise Java full-stack developer roles. The program builds foundational and practical skills across Java, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, React, Oracle Database, OpenShift, and CI/CD automation. The focus is hands-on and job-ready, equipping participants to contribute effectively to Java delivery teams from day one.

Program Structure:

Over 6 weeks, you’ll attend virtual informative lectures, collaborate with team members, and take part in individual and team exercises. Evening homework will provide an opportunity to apply what you’ve learned and build on it. The goal? Offer a comprehensive learning experience that prepares you with the essential skills needed for a Full Stack Java Developer role. Following the 6 week bootcamp, you will move into an on-the-job training period of the program, where you will work side by side with Sr. and Lead Engineers who will mentor you and help to ramp you up to a fully autonomous contributing member of the team. Following a couple of months, barring your performance is up to par, you will then be presented with a full time permanent position with the client.

Opportunity within a Fortune 500 Company:

This bootcamp will lead you to a role working at a TEKsystems Financial customer. This is a Fortune 500 Company recognized nationally and regionally for their accomplishments and success as a diversified financial services company that reflects the needs, values, and aspirations of their customers, employees, and communities. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in challenging work while benefitting from collaboration, networking opportunities, and mentorship from experienced professionals.

Bootcamp Synopsis:

This six-week immersive program prepares participants for enterprise Java full-stack development. The program builds foundational and practical skills across Java, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, Angular, Oracle Database, OpenShift, and CI/CD automation. The focus is hands-on and job-ready, equipping participants to contribute effectively to Java delivery teams from day one. Throughout the program, learners progress from Java fundamentals and object-oriented design through enterprise backend development with Spring Boot, event-driven architecture with Kafka, resilience patterns, full-stack integration with Angular and Oracle, and cloud-native delivery using containers, Kubernetes, and OpenShift. Automated testing with JUnit, Mockito, and Selenium, CI/CD with Bitbucket Pipelines and Code Insights, infrastructure automation with Ansible and Terraform, and security testing are integrated throughout to reflect real enterprise delivery pipelines. Professional skills are woven throughout, including technical communication, stakeholder collaboration, pair programming, feedback practices, and developer accountability.

The bootcamp culminates in a team-based capstone project where participants design, build, secure, automate, and deploy a full-stack Java application using the complete enterprise toolchain. Rather than a standalone AI module, this program integrates AI as a continuous thread through all phases. Each phase includes dedicated AI segments on (a) AI best practices and governance security, (b) AI’s impact on each domain, and (c) agentic tools in use — integrated into the curriculum without displacing core content.
