One annual (12-month) Academic Staff position for the role of Academic Advising Manager is open in the First-Year Bridge (FYB) program in the College of Letters and Science at UW-Milwaukee (UWM). The FYB program utilizes a first-year student-cohort model for students requiring additional academic support; FYB bolsters its students' future academic achievements through small, face-to-face campus classroom settings taught by teacher-scholar experts utilizing pedagogical best practices. The College of Letters and Science is the largest school or college at UWM; it offers a diverse array of courses in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences.
Job Summary:
The First-Year Bridge Academic Advising Manager advises students, manages First-Year Bridge academic student services, and supervises First-Year Bridge academic advisors. Our advisors engage students in decision-making processes and promote appropriate and responsible choices on academic matters, such as course selection and degree requirements. They maintain appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contribute to the development of academic advising related programming. Advisors work to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. The advising team strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
Specific goals, responsibilities, and work activities for this position include:
Manages the day-to-day activities of FYB student affairs/services, serving as team lead, and supervises and supports the FYB academic advisors. Also develops and implements academic advising events in collaboration with FYB academic advisors.
Serves as a main point of contact for students and proactively engages students to provide information about educational options and academic requirements; assists with identifying and assessing interests, skills, and values to match appropriate field of study/career options and refers students to appropriate institutional resources.
Maintains confidentiality and accurate student records and processes and responds to academic inquiries according to established institutional and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies.
Participate in new student orientation for FYB students.
Maintains expertise with FYB curriculum as well as college and university academic policies and procedures.
Participates in the campus-wide advising community as the FYB representative, providing input to leadership regarding the development of FYB advising, retention, and student success initiatives.
Key Job Responsibilities:The Division of Academic Access Programing of the UW-Milwaukee College of Letters & Science invites applications for one Academic Advising Manager staff person who will oversee the Academic Advisor staff for the First Year Bridge and FLEX programs, and report directly to the Assistant Dean of the program. This is a fixed-term renewable position.
Compensation:$58,000-$65,000 (Final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications and experience).
