Job description

Summary:

The Cultivation Technician reports directly to the Cultivation Managers and is responsible for maintaining, harvesting, trimming, and any other handling of medical marijuana including packaging and labeling. The Cultivation Technician is expected to work at an efficient pace, taking care to abide by established quality standards and state compliance at all times. The Cultivation Technician will maintain a safe and clean work environment by following current good handling practices, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and complying with rules and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Watering, transplanting, cloning, spraying, crop maintenance, trellising, sanitation
  • Weekly sanitation of all cultivation areas including equipment
  • Harvest plants in the appropriate plant production area, ensuring plants are handled properly and that each plant retains its identifying METRC plant tag
  • Perform trimming of dried plants, ensuring trimmed leaf, trimmed flower, and stems or other waste are separated, from each other and per harvest batch, to be weighed and reported properly
  • Ensure accuracy and traceability of trimming data by carefully collecting all plant material into its designated container with the associated METRC plant tag, after each plant is trimmed
  • Perform weighing of plants or plant material during trimming and harvesting, as requested by the Cultivation Manager
  • Perform packaging and labeling of product, ensuring accuracy of inventory by properly calibrating scales, weighing each package to the predetermined weight, and accurately counting packages upon preparation for distribution
  • Perform quality assurance measures, including inspecting material during trim or packaging, maintaining a sterile environment and work area, and safeguarding against broken or defective packaging or storage containers
  • Ensure neat and accurate labeling, checking that batch numbers, strains and other required information is correct and legible on the label
  • Immediately report any issues or deviations from quality standards to the Post-Harvest Manager during all post-harvest processes
  • Sanitize tools, equipment and work area daily
  • Wear required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to prevent contamination and abide by personal hygiene standards at all times
  • Work in a timely manner, moving at an efficient pace, and always strive to increase productivity
  • Cross training between post-harvest and cultivation tech.
  • Executes packaging directions.
  • Responsible for the cleaning of the packaging area and following of the appropriate departmental cleaning procedures.
  • Peeling labels from containers.
  • Applying labels to containers.
  • Weighing material to put into packages.
  • Follows daily packaging assignments.
  • Follow all DCC safety, legal, quality, process control policies and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • N/A

Relevant Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High school diploma
  • 1-3 years of experience in a regulated production environment preferred
  • Basic plant structure knowledge preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately
  • Must comply with state regulations and guidelines
  • Ability to pass a background check required
  • Must be 21 years of age or older

Physical Requirements:

  • Long periods of prolonged standing and sitting
  • Ability to observe and assess material that deviates from established company standards
  • Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to perform manual labor tasks
  • Must be capable of performing repetitive tasks for an extended period of time
  • Some crouching or holding uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time
  • Requires bending and lifting up to 50 pounds

Work Environment:

  • Similar to a busy manufacturing facility or warehouse
  • Occasional exposure to loud trim machines (ear protection provided) and extremely bright lights (eye protection provided)
  • Constant interaction with internal and external stakeholders
