Job Description:
The Nebraska Career and Technical Education team is seeking a Health Sciences Career Field Specialist and HOSA | Future Health Professionals Advisor to provide statewide programmatic leadership, consultative services, and technical assistance to Nebraska schools, Educational Service Units (ESUs), teacher preparation institutions, and other educational entities related to Health Sciences Career & Technical Education.

Pay Grade 9: $70,618.34/year
This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate.

Essential Functions
  • Serves as State Advisor for Nebraska HOSA and liaison between the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE), the Nebraska HOSA Association, and the Nebraska HOSA Board of Directors.
  • Coordinates resources, activities, events, and state and national conferences for Nebraska HOSA, and provides training for the HOSA State Officer team.
  • Provides support related to content area standards implementation, assessment of learning, professional learning, and instructional resources within Health Sciences and other related Career & Technical Student Organizations.
  • Develops, organizes, and coordinates the process to review and revise the Nebraska Health Science education standards, providing content area expertise to schools, ESUs, and postsecondary institutions.
  • Develops and facilitates professional learning experiences and resources related to Health Sciences Education and Career & Technical Education.
  • Provides guidance and technical assistance on selecting and implementing high-quality, standards-aligned instructional resources (e.g., curriculum, digital and open resources, assessment resources), and develops quality assurance processes.
  • Conducts desk audits and on-site visits to monitor state and federal grant recipients and provide technical assistance related to the development and implementation of grants. Reviews and approves applications, amendments, and reports.
  • Establishes and fosters strategic partnerships and serves as liaison among state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and businesses to achieve goals of Nebraska Career & Technical Education (CTE).
  • Maintains regular & reliable attendance, possesses a valid driver's license and travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.

Working Conditions and Travel:
This position requires approximately 70% of work time spent in an office environment; the remaining 30% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as schools, educational service units, and other service agencies. There is also approximately twenty days of overnight travel per year.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in the field of education or related subject area, two years of successful preK12 teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school, or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country, and eligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per §79-807.
NOTE: A Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per 92 NAC 21 must be possessed by the time the candidate begins employment at the Nebraska Department of Education and an active certificate maintained while in the Education Specialist position.
Substitution: Bachelor's degree in education or equivalent Master of Arts in Teaching per 92 NAC 21, and four years of teaching or school administration experience in an approved or accredited Nebraska school or equivalent teaching or school administration experience in another state or country, and eligible for/possess a current Nebraska Teaching or Administrative Certificate per §79-807.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience as an instructor in Health Sciences education, advising HOSA, and writing and aligning standards to local curriculum and working with state and federal grants.
