Job description

Position Summary
Seeking an experienced Substation Apparatus Technician to support utility transmission and substation projects in and around Erie, PA. Candidates with experience in electrical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and substation maintenance are strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Perform testing, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of substation apparatus and electrical equipment
  • Support commissioning activities for utility transmission and distribution substations
  • Perform breaker testing, transformer testing, CT/PT testing, and associated electrical diagnostics
  • Conduct maintenance and testing using Doble, Megger, Hi-pot, and other electrical testing equipment
  • Inspect and maintain SF6 breakers and related substation apparatus
  • Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection prints
  • Assist with outage support, equipment replacements, and system upgrades
  • Follow company, client, and OSHA safety procedures while working in energized substation environments
  • Complete testing documentation and reports accurately and timely
  • Work independently and alongside field crews, project managers, and utility personnel

Qualifications
  • Experience working in utility substations, transmission, or electrical testing environments
  • Hands-on experience with breaker testing, transformer testing, and substation maintenance preferred
  • Experience with Doble, Omicron, Megger, Hi-pot, or similar testing equipment preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and construction drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record

Preferred Experience
  • Utility or electrical power industry experience
  • Substation commissioning and maintenance support
  • Experience working in energized substations
  • Knowledge of transmission and distribution systems
