Hiring Range: $17.25-$18.98
Description
Under general supervision of the Parks Operations Supervisor, the Groundsworker performs manual labor to establish and maintain the maintenance and upkeep of public parks, grounds, buildings, athletic fields, and related facilities within an assigned area of the Parks and Recreation Department, including but not limited to landscaping, grounds maintenance, mowing, athletic fields, and maintenance of buildings and structures within City parks and other City areas.
Principal Duties
  1. Maintain and clean parks, recreational grounds, and other City property.
  2. Inspect facilities, identify and report job hazards or possible safety concerns, personnel injuries, accidents, or damage to property to immediate supervisor.
  3. Mow and trim vegetation using a variety of manual and power equipment.
  4. Perform turf maintenance, dirt work, lining, base setting, and cleaning of buildings and grounds in the routine preparation of athletic fields.
  5. Remove and dispose of debris from parks and other City property.
  6. Maintain and repair playgrounds and other park structures.
  7. Clean and maintain city buildings, restrooms and equipment.
  8. Perform some horticulture work with flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  9. Perform routine checks and maintenance on vehicles and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and good operating condition; identify and report equipment malfunctions.
  10. Assist preparing for special events and recreational programs.
  11. Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid State of Texas Driver's License.
Knowledge and experience in the use of lawn care equipment.
Available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Work is performed outside in all weather conditions and requires sufficient physical strength, agility and dexterity to perform all essential tasks. Working environment may mean exposure to dust, fumes, solvents variable lighting conditions, noise and exposure to dangerous, hazardous, and potentially life-threatening situations. Knowledge of all appropriate precautions, procedures and techniques is an absolute requirement.
Please note: Based on assignment and or business necessity, this position may be required to work a non-traditional work week, which may consist of weekends as a standard work shift, as well as varied hours which may include evening shifts.
