What is a CSSLP?
A CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional) job involves securing software applications throughout the development lifecycle. Professionals in this role focus on implementing best security practices in software design, development, testing, and deployment. They collaborate with developers, security teams, and stakeholders to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities. CSSLP-certified individuals often work as security engineers, software developers, or compliance analysts to ensure secure coding practices. This certification is valuable for those looking to enhance software security and align with industry standards.
What does a CSSLP do?
A CSSLP-certified professional is responsible for integrating security best practices throughout the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to deployment and maintenance. This often involves conducting security risk assessments, reviewing code for vulnerabilities, guiding teams on secure design, and collaborating closely with developers, QA, and operations staff to ensure secure implementation. Additionally, CSSLPs may develop and enforce security policies, provide security training to the team, and stay updated on emerging threats and compliance requirements. These responsibilities help organizations reduce risks and achieve compliance, making the CSSLP role highly valued in security-focused development environments.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CSSLP?
To thrive as a CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional), you need in-depth knowledge of secure software development, application security principles, and risk management, typically supported by experience in software engineering and the CSSLP certification. Familiarity with secure coding standards, threat modeling tools, and secure development lifecycle frameworks is essential. Strong analytical skills, effective communication, and collaboration make candidates stand out in this role. These qualifications are vital for ensuring security is incorporated at every stage of the software development process and for minimizing vulnerabilities in deployed applications.

Job description
Seeking an experienced Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM) Developer to provide Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) support to U.S. Department of Defense programs. The selected candidate will design, develop, integrate, and sustain AFSIM-based capabilities while applying secure software lifecycle practices validated by an active CSSLP certification in support of DoD 8140/8570 requirements.
What will you do?
· Design, develop, and integrate AFSIM models, components, and scenarios to support analysis of engagement-, mission-, and campaign-level concepts for government customers.
· Implement secure software lifecycle practices (requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, maintenance) consistent with CSSLP domains and DoD cybersecurity policies.
· Develop and maintain C++-based AFSIM plug-ins, simulation entities, behaviors, and interfaces to external tools and data sources.
· Apply scripting (e.g., AFSIM’s script environment, Python/Lua where appropriate) to configure scenarios, behaviors, and batch runs for government analysis tasks.
· Conduct code reviews, static analysis, and vulnerability remediation to ensure compliance with secure coding standards and program security requirements.
· Support configuration management, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation for AFSIM capabilities delivered under government contracts.
· Collaborate with government engineers, analysts, and other contractors to capture requirements, refine use cases, and translate them into verified, validated simulation capabilities.
· Prepare and deliver technical documentation, test reports, user guides, and briefing materials in accordance with contract deliverable requirements (CDRLs).
· Provide technical input to proposals, estimates, and design reviews for current and future MS&A task orders.
Do you have what it takes?
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical discipline.
· 3–5+ years of professional software development experience, including C++ and object-oriented design on Windows or Linux.
· 2+ years of direct experience developing, integrating, or applying AFSIM in support of DoD or IC programs (e.g., scenario development, plugin development, operational analysis).
· Active Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) certification recognized under DoD 8140/8570.
· Experience applying secure coding practices, vulnerability mitigation, and software assurance concepts across the software development lifecycle.
· Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity and risk management processes (e.g., RMF, DoDD 8140/8570 role-based certification requirements).
· Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance; current active Secret or higher strongly preferred.
Desired Qualifications

· Experience with Python or other scripting languages for data processing, automation, and tool integration.
· Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, Git-based workflows, and modern CI/CD tools used in DoD environments.
· Prior experience working as a government contractor on cost-type or CPFF contracts, including adherence to CDRLs and program processes.
Work Environment and Travel
