Job description

Coinme is a licensed crypto financial services company operating the world's largest network of cryptocurrency kiosks across 40,000+ locations in the US. Through its mobile app, digital wallet, and enterprise Crypto-as-a-Service (CaaS) API infrastructure, Coinme enables seamless cash-to-crypto gateways, payment processing, and liquidity solutions for consumer and institutional partners.

Role Summary

The Director of Payments & Risk owns Coinme’s fraud defense strategy and AI-augmented risk operations end-to-end. In this player-coach role, you will design risk defense architecture across card processors, fraud vendors, and banking partners while building and governing agentic AI workflows that scale risk detection and maintain auditability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Detection Architecture: Manage fraud detection rules, thresholds, velocity limits, and models tuned against false-positive versus fraud-capture trade-offs.

  • Evidence-Based Investigations: Lead crisis response and fraud forensics across vendor logs, application telemetry, and card processor responses.

  • AI-Native Risk Operations: Design and govern autonomous AI agent workflows for queue triage, decline forensics, fraud-ring detection, and chargeback evidence assembly.

  • Root-Cause Remediation: Drive system fixes across upstream product, compliance, and account lifecycle workflows rather than creating permanent downstream workarounds.

  • Vendor & Ecosystem Governance: Manage commercial and technical relationships with fraud vendors, card processors, sponsor banks, and platform partners.

Requirements & Qualifications Must-Haves
  • Payments & Fraud Depth: Deep domain expertise in card rails (authorization/decline mechanics), chargeback dispute rules (Visa/Mastercard), ACH, and crypto-side risk flows.

  • Platform & Data Fluency: Hands-on experience with modern fraud platforms (e.g., Sardine, Sift, SEON, Kount, Forter) and proficiency in SQL for raw log telemetry analysis.

  • AI-Native Operations: Experience building, setting guardrails for, and governing AI-assisted operational workflows or agentic automation.

  • Incident & Crisis Leadership: Demonstrated ability to make rapid, evidence-based decisions during live security or fraud incidents.

Nice-to-Haves
  • Direct experience with the Sardine platform, TabaPay, or card processor integrations.

  • Familiarity with blockchain analytics tooling (e.g., TRM Labs, Chainalysis, Elliptic) and on-chain wallet investigations.

  • BSA/AML and SAR familiarity, including SAR-aware evidence handling and account lock/reactivation policies.

  • Experience building with LLM agent frameworks (e.g., Claude Code, Agent SDKs) or dbt/modern data stacks.

  • Relevant professional certifications such as CFE, CAMS, or FRM.

Benefits & Perks
  • Healthcare: 100% company-covered health insurance options for both employees and dependents.

  • Compensation: Competitive pay with annual performance bonuses.

  • Time Off & Stipends: Discretionary Time Off (DTO) plus a $600 professional development reimbursement allowance.

  • 401(k): Retirement investment program.
