Description
The Cross-Border Operations Specialist is responsible for coordinating and executing all inbound and outbound freight activities, including cross-border shipments, warehousing operations, inventory control, and packaging of materials. This role ensures the efficient movement, storage, documentation and preparation of goods while maintaining compliance with customs, transportation, and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Champion and uphold the company's values, vision, mission and quality policy in all activities.
• Adhere to and help enforce company policies, procedures, and internal control standards.
• Prepare, review, audit, and maintain import/export documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and Mexican pedimentos.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Mexican Customs (SAT/ANAM), and other applicable trade regulations.
• Coordinate with customs brokers to support accurate customs declarations and expedite cargo clearance.
• Maintain documentation records and support customs audits and compliance reviews.
Logistics & Transportation Coordination
• Coordinate inbound and outbound cross-border shipments with freight forwarders, customs brokers, drayage carriers, and transportation providers.
• Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve border crossing delays, customs holds, and transportation issues.
• Schedule and manage cross-dock activities to ensure efficient cargo flow.
• Collaborate with warehouse and transportation teams to optimize transit times and service levels.
Inventory Control & Receiving
• Receive and inspect incoming international shipments against manifests, purchase orders, and shipping documentation.
• Verify shipment accuracy and document shortages, damages, overages, and other discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate inventory records within warehouse management systems (WMS) and inventory platforms.
• Support inventory reconciliation, cycle counts, and cargo staging activities.
Bilingual Communication & Customer Service
• Serve as a primary point of contact for carriers, customs brokers, warehouse personnel, vendors, and customers on both sides of the border.
• Utilize fluent English and Spanish communication skills to resolve operational issues and coordinate shipment activities.
• Provide timely updates regarding shipment status, customs clearance, and service disruptions.
• Foster strong relationships with logistics partners and stakeholders.
Security, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with CTPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) security standards and company security procedures.
• Conduct cargo and facility inspections to maintain supply chain integrity.
• Support workplace safety initiatives and regulatory compliance programs.
• Report and investigate security incidents, cargo discrepancies, and compliance concerns.
Qualifications:
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience in cross-border logistics, international transportation, customs operations, or warehouse operations.
• Working knowledge of U.S.- Mexico import/export processes and customs documentation.
• Experience coordinating with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and transportation providers.
• Fluent in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
• Proficiency with MS Office
• Preferred knowledge of CBP regulations, Mexican customs procedures, and international trade compliance.
• Preferred experience with CTPAT, IMMEX and USMCA requirements.
• Preferred familiarity with inventory control and warehouse operations.
• Preferred customs, trade compliance or logistics certifications.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend and perform physical warehouse tasks for periods of time.
• Comfortable working in a warehouse environment and varying temperatures.
Expected Hours of Work:
• This is a full-time position, typically Monday through Friday.
• While weekend work is rare, occasional weekend activity may be required based on business needs.
Travel:
• 10%
• Possible international travel
Pay Range
$58,000.00 Annually to $73,000.00 Annually
