Job description

Adecco is currently seeking a Research Technician to support our agricultural research partner in Durham, NC. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in plant science, agronomy, horticulture, or agricultural research to contribute to innovative crop research programs in a greenhouse and controlled-environment setting. The Research Technician will support plant and seed production activities for commercial crops, including soybean and maize, while assisting with research operations and data collection.

The anticipated hourly wage for this position is $21.09 per hour. Hourly wage may depend upon experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Position Summary

The Research Technician provides operational support for plant and seed production activities within greenhouse and growth chamber environments. This hands-on role is responsible for daily plant care, experimental support, data collection, and maintaining research quality standards while ensuring compliance with safety and stewardship requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily plant care activities including watering, fertilizing, scouting, and general greenhouse maintenance.

  • Conduct planting, transplanting, pollination, sampling, and harvesting activities according to research protocols.

  • Monitor plant growth and development while collecting and recording accurate research data.

  • Support greenhouse and growth chamber environmental management, including monitoring conditions and assisting with basic troubleshooting.

  • Maintain detailed records and documentation to support research activities and experimental outcomes.

  • Collaborate with research scientists and team members to execute study plans and meet project timelines.

  • Ensure compliance with stewardship requirements, regulatory standards, and company policies.

  • Follow all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) guidelines and safe work practices.

  • Assist with maintaining clean, organized, and efficient greenhouse and research facilities.

  • Provide occasional weekend and holiday coverage to support critical plant care operations.

QualificationsRequired Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field; OR

  • Associate's degree with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with greenhouse and/or growth chamber environmental control systems.

  • Familiarity with agricultural research practices and experimental workflows.

  • Working knowledge of plant biology, crop growth requirements, and plant care principles.

  • Previous greenhouse experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to perform physical duties required for greenhouse operations in controlled-environment conditions, including standing and walking for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively in minimally supervised settings.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures and protocols accurately.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

  • Commitment to stewardship, quality, and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Experience with data collection, recordkeeping, and documentation in a protocol-driven or regulated environment.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
