CMDB Administrator

As a CMDB Administrator, you will be responsible for the technical configuration, operation, and ongoing integrity of the CMDB platform. This role manages discovery tools, integrations, reconciliation jobs, normalization rules, and overall platform health. The position ensures that CMDB data remains accurate, authoritative, and aligned with ITIL standards to support enterprise ITSM processes.

What You'll Do

  • You'll administer and maintain CMDB platforms (e.g., BMC Helix CMDB, BMC Discovery)
  • You'll configure datasets, class models, metadata, sync maps, and scheduled jobs.
  • You'll support automated discovery sources (BMC Discovery, SCCM) and ensure accuracy of ingested CI data.
  • You'll manage integrations with additional systems of record (Flexera, MSSQL ingestion, etc.).
  • You'll configure and maintain normalization rules (product names, manufacturers, categorization).
  • You'll manage reconciliation identification and precedence rules to prevent duplicates and preserve authoritative attributes.
  • You'll perform routine CMDB audits, gap analysis, and remediation of CI data issues.
  • Monitor reconciliation logs, data ingest failures, and inconsistent CI patterns.
  • You'll maintain CMDB technical documentation, runbooks, and administrator guides.
  • You'll train analysts and IT staff on CMDB standards, tools, and data stewardship expectations.
  • You'll provide ITSM support for incidents and problems, and change management processes through accurate CI relationships and lifecycle management.
  • You'll provide impact analysis and CI dependency insight to service owners.

What You'll Need

  • To thrive in this role, you have 3-5 years of experience with CMDB administration, ITSM tools, or IT infrastructure.
  • You're proficient with ServiceNow or BMC Helix CMDB, Discovery, and integration pipelines.
  • You have a strong understanding of reconciliation, normalization, and CMDB data models.
  • You have strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
  • You have technical depth in CMDB and discovery systems
  • You have data quality and governance discipline
  • You have analytical and diagnostic capability
  • You have the ability to translate technical issues for nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Certifications in ITIL Foundation, CHAMP and/or CSAM are preferred and not required.
