Shift/Schedule: Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm
Compensation: $35-45/hour
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, person-centered nursing services to individuals receiving community-based mental health care. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, the RN supports recovery by providing clinical nursing care, health education, medication management, therapeutic group facilitation, care coordination, crisis intervention, and client advocacy. This position promotes whole-person wellness by addressing both physical and behavioral health needs while empowering clients to achieve their recovery goals and improve their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Nursing Services
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, including physical and mental health evaluations.
- Monitor clients for changes in physical and psychiatric health status and intervene appropriately.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with provider orders and organizational policies.
- Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and adherence while providing education regarding prescribed medications.
- Coordinate routine health screenings and preventive care services.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record
Therapeutic Group Facilitation
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups that support recovery and wellness.
- Lead groups focused on topics such as medication management, coping skills, stress reduction, relapse prevention, symptom management, healthy lifestyles, chronic disease management, and wellness.
- Foster a safe, respectful, and supportive group environment that encourages participation and peer interaction.
- Evaluate participant progress and document attendance, participation, and clinical observations.
Care Coordination and Client Advocacy
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, case managers, peer support specialists, primary care providers, and community partners to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Advocate for clients by assisting them in accessing medical care, behavioral health services, and other community resources.
- Coordinate care across healthcare systems to promote continuity of services and reduce barriers to treatment.
- Support clients in navigating healthcare and social service systems while promoting self-advocacy and informed decision-making.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to ensure coordinated, holistic care.
Client and Family Education
- Provide education to clients and families regarding psychiatric diagnoses, medications, chronic health conditions, wellness strategies, and available community resources.
- Encourage healthy lifestyle choices and self-management of physical and behavioral health conditions.
- Reinforce recovery-oriented principles that promote independence, resilience, and personal growth.
Crisis Intervention
- Assess and respond to behavioral health and medical crises within the scope of nursing practice.
- Coordinate appropriate interventions and referrals, including emergency services when necessary.
- Collaborate with crisis response teams, hospitals, and community providers to ensure client safety and continuity of care.
Compliance and Professional Practice
- Maintain compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations, nursing standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies.
- Protect client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA .
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff meetings, supervision, and continuing education.
- Maintain current RN licensure and required certifications.
Qualifications
Required
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Valid driver's license
Preferred
- Experience in community mental health, psychiatric nursing, behavioral health, or public health.
- Experience facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented practices, motivational interviewing, and person-centered care.
- Experience working with individuals living with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications and common medical conditions affecting individuals with behavioral health diagnoses.
- Ability to build therapeutic relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Strong advocacy and care coordination abilities.
- Ability to facilitate engaging and effective therapeutic groups.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
- Commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered care.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel within the community to meet with clients and community partners.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and perform routine nursing activities.
- Ability to respond appropriately during behavioral health or medical emergencies.
