Experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician (RVT) or Veterinary Medical Assistant

Schedule: FT - 2nd shift: 4pm-2am, rotating weekends
The Triangle's premier Emergency and Specialty Hospitals are seeking highly motivated and highly skilled Experienced Emergency Veterinary Technicians to join our our team.
Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospitals (TVRH) is a multi-location group which consists of two 24-hour Emergency and Specialty practices. In addition to our emergency and critical care service we have specialty services in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, radiology, neurology, dermatology, and rehabilitation. We are expanding our surgery department and would like to add new members to our team of board-certified surgeons, surgery/anesthesia technicians and surgery assistants. Our new facility, advanced equipment, (including digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, laparoscopy, CT, and MRI) and services allow plenty of opportunities for growth.
We are looking for technicians who want to utilize their skills to the fullest potential in a fast paced, fun, and stimulating environment. These roles function with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility; solid technical skills, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work both independently and with a team are required.
Essential Job Functions
  • Provide nursing care for critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians
  • Participate in nurse rounds
  • Triage incoming patients presenting on emergency
  • Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs
  • Perform diagnostics, including in-hours laboratory testing and digital radiography, and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients
  • Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring
  • Observe patients and recognize changes in status
  • Place peripheral and central catheters
  • Perform venipuncture
  • Restrain patients for exams and treatments
  • Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids
  • Perform client communication and education including patient discharges
  • Maintain urinary catheters
  • Bandage removal and application
  • Perform suture and drain removal
  • Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs
  • Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
  • Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
  • Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients
  • Basic wound cleaning and care
  • Prep patients for anesthetized procedures
  • Prep equipment and supplies for anesthetized procedures
  • Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia
  • Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log
  • Interpret vital readings during anesthesia
  • Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia
  • Assist in CPCR

Education and Experience
▪ 2+ years of experience in the veterinary field required
▪ Preference will be given to an individual desiring to pursue a degree in veterinary technology or animal science
