Job description


This position is responsible for testing production batches according to specific written testing methods and identifying issues of both in-spec and out-of-spec data. The lab technician will interpret results and historical data to ensure the product meets or exceeds the customers' requirements for quality as well as provide instructions to production personnel regarding adjustments to batches as needed. The technician will be involved in the efficient operation of the lab, general housekeeping, ensuring a safe work environment and will independently perform tasks as outlined by his/her supervisor/manager.

Schedule: 3rd Shift: Sunday night to Thursday night, 11:00pm to 7:30am
This position is also eligible for a bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company's applicable plans.
Job duties include contact with other employees, operating heavy machinery, and access to proprietary information, raw materials, finished merchandise, and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and vendors.
Responsibilities
  • Batch approval- assures that all tests are completed, and results meet all specifications before going to the next production process
  • Perform all colored pigment adds to batches
  • Enter all batches' data into EBR including batch deviations
  • Generate appropriate paperwork as needed per the customer specifications
  • Gather and send customer samples as required
  • Follows all standard technical procedures and exercises good judgment and initiatives
  • Be able to accomplish assigned work with little supervision
  • Perform and document all laboratory equipment calibration checks
  • If necessary, follows appropriate raw material test methods and may file related paperwork. Gather, stock and manage product retain area
  • Utilizes appropriate computer systems to ensure effective testing of products
  • Determines disposition of non-compliant finished goods, such as first case/last case
  • Places non-conforming material on hold as needed
  • Supports the ISO Management Systems and Safety Systems
  • Maintains inventory of lab supplies, stocks them when received, and requests them when we are low
  • May be required to work a different shift to cover for vacations, overtime, call-ins, etc
  • Maintains Lab housekeeping and cleans all test equipment
  • Must adhere to all safety requirements of job
  • Identify and communicate product issues to other departments as needed
  • Review batch slip for completeness and accuracy
  • Create, maintain, and update SOP's for Quality Department to meet ISO requirements (where applicable)
  • May assist in training of other lab techs as needed

  • Ability to audit batch making and filling processes to existing quality standards
  • Identify quality non-conformances at the earliest possible stage in the production process

  • Reduces the production of nonconforming product through the review and implementation of corrective actions

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have the legal right to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship now or in the future for employment visa status

Preferred Qualifications
  • Have at least an associate degree or higher in Chemistry
  • Have at least one (1) year of experience working in a quality control laboratory
  • Have at least one (1) year of work experience operating machinery in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment
  • Must have at least (1) year of experience with MS Access, Microsoft Word, and Excel
