We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Lab Assistant I to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for ordering laboratory tests, collecting and processing patient specimens, preparing reports, and ensuring accurate handling of all laboratory samples. What You'll Do:
Specimen Collection:
  • Explain the importance of lab tests to patients and guide them through preparation.
  • Collect a wide variety of specimens (blood, urine, swabs, saliva, etc.) following prescribed guidelines.
  • Accurately label specimens and notify the testing team of special handling requirements.

Pre-Analytic Specimen Handling:
  • Prepare specimens for transport, ensuring proper preservation and labeling.

Receptionist & Clerk Functions:
  • Ensure medical necessity for test requests utilizing currently available information. Inform patients of limited coverage.
  • Clarify written orders with ordering physician or agency through appropriate channels.
  • Accurately enter patient demographic, billing information and test order in laboratory computer system. Obtain patient consent as applicable.
