THE DIVISION The Operations Support Division of the Police Department consists of the Investigations Bureau and Special Enforcement Bureau.
The Crime Analysis Technician is part of the Crime Analysis Unit which operates within the Investigations Division. Examples of Duties THE POSITION A Crime Analysis Technician will be the primary source of department crime statistics. They are responsible for maintaining thorough databases and providing detailed reports to various department personnel.
The job duties of a Crime Analysis Technician are highly variable, and the ideal candidate must be adaptable. The Crime Analysis Unit works with large amounts of crime data and the Crime Analysis Technician must be able to effectively compile large quantities of data into clear, concise reports. A Crime Analysis Technician also provides case support to detectives within the investigative units and works closely with outside agencies.
Qualifications / Requirements THE IDEAL CANDIDATE The Visalia Police Department is looking for a professional candidate who must possess a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and effective communication skills. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and have excellent time management. The candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and personnel from outside agencies.
In addition, the ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, initiative, adaptability, and resourcefulness. The work involves high frequency contact with Command Staff requiring the candidate to have good interpersonal skills. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skill and ability is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain knowledge, skill and abilities would be: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible administrative experience, preferably in law enforcement, performing technical, analytical, statistical and administrative duties. Specialized training in police crime analysis and reporting is desirable. Equivalent to graduation with a degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, with major work in criminal justice, mathematics, statistics or a closely related field is desirable.
