Job Description:

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Assistant Coach, Men's Crew position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).

The Assistant Coach, Men's Crew assists the Head Coach in all aspects of developing and executing practice and game strategy. This position plays a key role in student athlete recruitment and player development. This role serves as a direct line of communication between the Head Coach and student athletes, providing support and feedback. This position may be responsible for administrative duties as needed including but not limited to organizing travel, equipment needs, and scheduling.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree with 2-4 years of coaching experience. In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, a minimum of 6 years direct related experience is required.
  • Coaching experience in intercollegiate athletics, professional athletics, elite amateur sport, or a comparable competitive environment.

Job Competencies

  • Solid understanding of the sport's rules, strategies, and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA/league compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of athlete skill development and position-specific training.
  • Understanding of recruiting processes and athlete evaluation methods.
  • Awareness of injury prevention and safe training practices.
  • Strong instructional and coaching skills for both individual and team development.

All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the compliance office and appropriate parties.

Employees in coaching positions must receive annual rules education on NCAA legislation related to recruiting by the compliance office and maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).
