How much do creo designer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 8, 2026, the average yearly pay for creo designer in the United States is $83,148.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $58,000.00 and $109,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by Creo Designers when working on complex assemblies, and how can they be addressed?

Creo Designers often encounter challenges such as managing large assemblies that can slow down system performance and make it difficult to track design changes. To address these issues, designers typically use simplified representations, proper layering, and assembly management tools within Creo to optimize performance. Collaborating closely with engineers and other team members is also essential, as it helps ensure design intent is maintained and issues are caught early. Regularly updating and organizing project files can further minimize errors and improve workflow efficiency.

What is the difference between Creo Designer vs CAD Designer?

AspectCreo DesignerCAD Designer
Required CredentialsProficiency in PTC Creo software, technical diploma or degree in engineering or designProficiency in various CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo), relevant degree or certification
Work EnvironmentDesign studios, engineering firms, manufacturing companiesArchitectural firms, product design companies, manufacturing
Industry UsagePrimarily in product design, mechanical engineering, and manufacturingBroader, including architecture, civil, and mechanical design

Creo Designer specializes in using PTC Creo for detailed product and mechanical design, often within manufacturing and engineering sectors. CAD Designer has a broader scope, working with various CAD tools across multiple industries. Both roles require strong technical skills, but Creo Designer focuses specifically on Creo software expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Creo Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creo Designer, you need strong 3D CAD modeling skills, a solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, and typically a degree in engineering or a related field. Proficiency in Creo Parametric software and familiarity with PLM systems like Windchill are commonly required, along with relevant certifications in CAD design. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating with engineering teams and translating concepts into manufacturable designs. These skills ensure efficient design processes, high-quality outputs, and successful coordination within multidisciplinary product development environments.

What are Creo Designers?

Creo Designers are professionals who use PTC Creo, a leading 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, to create, modify, and optimize detailed engineering models and drawings. They are responsible for designing mechanical parts, assemblies, and products, often working closely with engineers and manufacturers to ensure that designs meet technical specifications and production requirements. Creo Designers play a crucial role in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing, where precise and efficient design is essential to product development.

Job description

Boston Government Services, LLC. (BGS) is seeking a Mechanical Designer to produce high quality engineering design packages for components and subsystems. The position resides in the Design Services group within the Second Target Station (STS) Project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

BGS is an engineering, technology, and security firm helping to advance missions of national importance for government programs, national laboratories, national security facilities, nuclear operations, and complex projects. We support clients at every stage, from strategic planning and program management to the execution of engineering and technical activities. We work to attract and retain the best talent because the best talent delivers the best results for our clients. Our capabilities are based on our experience in complex, secure, and highly regulated environments. We leverage our experience and capabilities to provide mission-driven solutions tuned to our client's mission needs and strategic direction.

The Second Target Station (STS) is a >$2Billion Department of Energy project to be constructed at the ORNL Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) over the next decade. The STS will provide wholly new capabilities for the study of a broad range of materials with neutron scattering and support thousands of users from the physical, materials, and applied sciences as well as industry. The science capabilities provided the STS will complement those of the two existing neutron scattering user facilities at ORNL, the First Target Station (FTS) of the SNS and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). The STS will deliver the highest peak brightness cold neutrons in the world, which together with advances linear accelerator technology, high powered targets, moderators, and neutron instrumentation, will ensure U.S. leadership in neutron scattering for decades to come.

As part of the Design Services group, you will have the opportunity to engage in the design of complex, integrated mechanical systems, many of which are first-of-a-kind or one-of-a-kind. In this role, you will work alongside other designers, engineers, and scientists to fully develop these component and subsystem designs. You will be responsible for developing component and subsystem designs and detailed fabrication drawings. You will support the responsible engineer in preparing technical specifications and other procurement-related documents. In addition to producing your own design packages, a Senior Mechanical Designer will be responsible for reviewing and checking the work of peer designers.

  • Successfully communicate and collaborate with engineers and scientists throughout the design process.
  • Create engineering models and drawings using Creo/Windchill.
  • Prepare clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detail drawings from layouts, rough, or detailed sketches and from written or verbal instructions.
  • Perform tolerance stack ups to assure proper fit in assemblies.
  • Check detail drawings of peer designers to assure compliance with engineering codes and drafting standards.

Requirements:

  • Associates degree in an engineering discipline with a minimum of 8 yearsโ€™ relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and design experience may be considered instead of an associateโ€™s degree.
