Reporting to the Associate Director for Communications and Marketing, the Communications Specialist will plan, create, and publish standout content (including short-form video), and partner across teams to deliver campaigns and projects that build awareness, engage supporters, and drive meaningful action - such as webinars and other mission-forward communications. The Specialist also provides essential team support-helping coordinate schedules, organize assets, and keep communications projects moving smoothly.

The Communications Specialist is a high-impact role for a creative, detail-oriented communications professional who wants to advance Global Refuge's mission through powerful storytelling and strategic digital engagement. This position manages organic social for the organization's brand channels-Instagram, Facebook, X, Bluesky, and TikTok-while also supporting CEO accounts to amplify key messages and timely advocacy.

Global Refuge, formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), is a nonprofit serving newcomers seeking safety, support, and a share in the American dream. Responsibilities/Duties

  • Create a monthly content calendar for our organic social channels, ensuring we are on message, creative, and in sync with broader communications and fundraising campaigns.
  • Draft and publish daily social media posts for organic social, coordinating with other departments as needed.
  • Shoot and edit videos for brand and CEO social channels.
  • Coordinate special events, projects, and campaigns, such as webinars, quarterly content plans, and cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Provide administrative support, including departmental expense report and invoicing.
  • Coordinate and manage creation and distribution of branded materials such as swag, brochures, etc. with external vendors.
  • Track social analytics and provide monthly report outs.
  • Monitor media trends and best practices, and share with the team and wider organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or another relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to four years of experience in social media, communications, marketing, creative writing, and interactive content management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with tracking and reporting analytics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or Canva required.
  • Knowledge of WordPress, MailChimp, and Salesforce CRM preferred.
  • Flexible, creative, and adaptable thinker, with ability to work independently and collaboratively and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful team player.
