What is creative writing?

Creative writing is a form of writing that goes beyond the bounds of professional, journalistic, academic, or technical forms of literature. Instead, it emphasizes narrative craft, character development, and the use of literary tropes or with various traditions of poetry and poetics. Creative writing includes genres such as fiction, poetry, memoir, and scripts for plays, films, or television. Its main goal is to entertain, provoke thought, or evoke emotions through originality and imagination.

How do creative writers typically collaborate with editors and other team members during the publication process?

Creative writers often work closely with editors, literary agents, and sometimes marketing teams throughout the publication process. After submitting their manuscripts, writers receive feedback and suggested revisions from editors to enhance clarity, tone, or narrative flow. Open communication and flexibility are important, as writers may go through several rounds of edits before final approval. Additionally, writers may participate in meetings or brainstorming sessions to align their work with publication goals or marketing strategies. This collaborative environment helps ensure the final product resonates with the intended audience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Creative Writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Writer, you need strong writing skills, a solid grasp of grammar and storytelling techniques, often supported by a degree in English, creative writing, or a related field. Familiarity with word processing software, publishing platforms, and content management systems is typically important. Creativity, resilience to feedback, and effective time management are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities are crucial for producing compelling content, meeting deadlines, and adapting to the evolving needs of audiences or clients.

Job description

About Us
Welcome to PND Engineers, Inc., established in 1979 at the heart of Anchorage, Alaska, and now proudly operating in Juneau and Palmer, Alaska; Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Houston, Texas; and Vancouver, B.C. We're not your typical civil engineering firm; we blend expertise with innovation, empowering our creative and technical staff with the courage to tackle unique engineering challenges. At PND, we redefine engineering, covering everything from heavy civil and structural design to arctic engineering, coastal engineering, and waterfront engineering. We take pride in turning innovative designs into reality, creating cost-effective construction solutions that improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.
Join Us in Shaping the Future
PND's continued success relies on securing new projects through high-quality, competitive proposals. As the Senior Proposal Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in developing compelling, client-focused proposals that showcase PND's technical expertise, innovative solutions, and proven track record of success. Working closely with our marketing team and multidisciplinary engineering staff, you will help tell PND's story by creating persuasive narratives through exceptional writing and visually appealing submissions that differentiate us from our competitors. You will be responsible for leading proposal processes from outlining through submission, managing internal schedules and cross-functional teams while ensuring full compliance with Request for Proposals (RFP) requirements and the clients' strict deadlines. Your expertise in proposal strategy, InDesign, and storytelling will help PND win exciting new projects across Alaska and beyond.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking an experienced proposal writer with a proven track record of developing winning proposals in the engineering, architecture, or construction industry (A/E/C). The ideal candidate will bring:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in planning, writing, editing, and producing complex technical proposals in response to RFPs, RFQs, and other solicitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and analyze RFPs, identify key client needs and evaluation criteria, and develop tailored, winning strategies.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to lead proposal efforts from kickoff through final submission, coordinate with technical staff, and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent copywriting and copyediting skills with the ability to transform technical information into clear, persuasive, and client-focused narratives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) for creating professional, visually compelling proposals.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail.
  • Consistent and reliable 40-hour workweek attendance, ability to work effectively under tight deadlines, and ability to occasionally work overtime.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work closely with marketing, engineering, and leadership teams to align proposals with company goals.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with engineering services proposals, particularly in civil, structural, arctic, coastal, or waterfront projects.
  • Experience with proposal content libraries, past performance matrices, and win theme development.

Why PND?
Apart from the satisfaction of helping bring in new projects for the firm-and ultimately seeing those projects come to fruition through new infrastructure across the state-PND offers:
  • Competitive salary, overtime premium, and discretionary bonuses
  • Comprehensive health insurance benefits (family medical, dental, and vision)
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • An exceptional 401(k) profit-sharing retirement plan

PND has a long, proud history in Alaska, with more than 150 national and international awards and recognitions in our 47-year history. If you're an experienced proposal professional ready to contribute to PND's winning tradition, we encourage you to submit your resume, cover letter, and relevant writing/proposal samples.
