Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth, franchises of Smith Entertainment Group (SEG), are looking for an aspiring Creative Production Intern to join our dynamic creative services team overseeing both sports teams' pre-production. This position will primarily focus on shooting a wide variety of videos, photos, and short-form content for the sports franchise they are selected for, as well as other departments and teams within SEG with an emphasis on Jazz Youth, Mammoth Youth, and Jazz Bantam. This position will also supplement edits in conjunction with the post-production team.
The right person for this position must be well-versed in the shooting process of telling concise, visually pleasing stories, and have an attitude ready to learn. This person should be able to see a project from concept to completion and bring new ideas to the creative voice of the team. In this role, you will need to have a good sense of visual composition, take direction, be open to notes, and be versatile. You'll be able to combine your passion for sports with video and photo production. This is a part-time position. Expect to work 20-30 hours a week, including weekends. The duration of the position is planned for August 2026 to August 2027, off-season to off-season, giving you the full internship experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Shoot and assist with photos and videos surrounding Utah Jazz, Utah Mammoth, and all subsidiary entities such as player and team hype videos, interviews, short-form videos, and sponsorship fulfillment videos, as well as assisting on all other video and photo projects where needed.
  • Shoot and edit run-and-gun style event recaps.
  • Assist other shooters on various projects.
  • Aid on-set productions as a production assistant.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Be an out-of-the-box thinker and problem-solver.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES:
Pre-Production
  • Ability to prepare necessary materials in the pre-production process such as mood boards, shot lists, references and inspirations, and more.

Production
  • Understanding of shot composition, movement, and other in-camera techniques to enhance the story.
  • Ability to be given direction and smoothly control solo run-and-gun video and photo shoots.
  • Learn quickly to be self-sufficient to make shoots happen.

Post Process
  • Basic video and photo editing techniques.
  • Basic color correction (like balancing log footage).
  • Basic audio adjustments (experience with Essential Sounds in Premiere Pro).
  • The ability to mix sound and sound design is a plus.
  • Assistant editing and project preparation.

Camera & Equipment
  • Experience with Sony equipment.
  • Experience with various 4K cameras and audio equipment is a plus.
  • Experience with camera stabilizers is a plus.
  • Experience with lighting, grip, and electric equipment is a plus.

Other
  • Understand frame rates, codecs, and other technical specifications of cameras and video.
  • Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (such as Premiere Pro and Audition).
  • Motion Graphics (such as Adobe After Effects, Blender, C4D) experience is a plus.
  • Experience and comfortability using Apple products and macOS.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 4-year degree preferred.
  • Zero to one year of demonstrated professional experience working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Interest in the NBA and NHL is preferred.
  • Flexibility in schedule to assist on productions (including weekends).
  • Experience editing quick turnaround projects.
  • Solo run-and-gun operation experience preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Production or on-set studio experience is a plus.
  • Photography skills are a plus.
  • Passion for the creative and filming processes.
  • Be hands-on and proactive.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • This person must be able to communicate and express themselves both in writing and verbally.
  • This person must be able to observe, inspect, estimate, and assess.
  • This person must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and climb stairs for long periods of time.
  • This person must be able to lift 50 lbs.
