What is a creative writing internship?

A Creative Writing Internship is a temporary position where individuals, often students or recent graduates, gain practical experience in writing original content for various mediums such as blogs, magazines, advertising, or publishing companies. Interns work under the guidance of professional writers or editors to develop their storytelling, editing, and communication skills. These internships can provide valuable portfolio pieces and networking opportunities, helping interns build a foundation for a career in writing or related fields.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative writing intern?

To thrive as a Creative Writing Intern, you need strong writing skills, a solid grasp of grammar and storytelling techniques, and often an academic background in English, journalism, or related fields. Familiarity with content management systems, word processing tools, and digital publishing platforms is typically expected. Creativity, openness to feedback, and effective communication are crucial soft skills that help interns excel in collaborative and deadline-driven environments. These abilities ensure that interns can produce engaging content, adapt to editorial standards, and contribute positively to creative teams.

How does a creative writing intern typically collaborate with editors and other team members during their internship?

Creative Writing Interns often work closely with editors, fellow writers, and content strategists to brainstorm ideas, refine drafts, and ensure their writing aligns with the publication's voice and goals. Regular feedback sessions and editorial meetings are common, providing opportunities for interns to learn and grow. Interns may also participate in peer reviews and contribute to team projects, gaining valuable experience in constructive collaboration and the editorial workflow.

What is the difference between Creative Writing Internship vs Content Writing Internship?

Work EnvironmentPublishing houses, media companies, advertising agenciesDigital marketing firms, online media, corporate blogs

Job description

As our Product Marketing Intern, you'll get hands-on exposure to how a Product Marketing team supports an online casino and sportsbook, from competitive research and messaging to creative briefing, go-to-market strategy, and cross-team collaboration. This role is designed as a learning-focused, mentored experience: you'll support the Product Marketing Manager and broader team on real initiatives, while developing foundational skills through a structured set of development projects (outlined below). It's a great fit for someone early in their marketing career who is curious, organized, and eager to learn by doing.

What You'll Do:

  • Support Product Marketing Initiatives: Assist the Product Marketing Manager with day-to-day tasks that support brand visibility, user acquisition, engagement, and retention efforts.
  • Conduct Research: Research competitor promotions, product features, and industry trends; summarize findings into clear, easy-to-digest recaps for the team.
  • Assist with Messaging & Content: Help draft supporting materials, such as one-pagers, briefs, and internal talking points, under guidance and with feedback from the Product Marketing Manager.
  • Support Creative Briefing & Critiques: Help prepare creative briefs, sit in on creative review and critique sessions, and learn how to give and apply constructive creative direction.
  • Learn Go-to-Market (GTM) Fundamentals: Assist in building GTM plans and supporting documentation across core pillars: audience and positioning, messaging, channel plan, timeline, and measurement.
  • Build Cross-Functional Relationships: Alongside the PM team, connect with Sportsbook and Casino Ops/Promotions teams, plus Creative and User Acquisition partners, to learn how promotions are conceived, approved, and executed; join team meetings and check-ins and help track follow-ups and action items.
  • Support Data & Reporting: Help pull, organize, and format campaign and performance data; assist in building simple trackers and recaps that inform team decisions.
  • Complete Development Projects: Take ownership of the guided learning projects outlined below, presenting progress and takeaways to the team along the way.

What You'll Bring:

  • Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable sharing ideas and asking questions.
  • Organization: Detail-oriented and able to manage a few small projects or tasks at once.
  • Curiosity: Interest in the gaming, sports betting, or mobile gaming industry is a plus, but not required; we'll help you build that knowledge.
  • Tools: Comfortable with Slack, Zoom, Outlook, Microsoft Office; willingness to learn new tools (e.g., analytics or project management platforms) as needed.
  • Mindset: Proactive, coachable, and excited to learn in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
