What is a creative side hustle?

Creative side hustles are part-time projects or small businesses that allow individuals to earn extra income by using their artistic or innovative skills outside of their primary job. These can include activities like freelance graphic design, photography, handmade crafts, writing, or music production. Creative side hustles offer a flexible way to pursue passions, build a portfolio, and potentially turn a hobby into a profitable endeavor. They are popular among people looking for additional income, professional growth, or a creative outlet.

How can I effectively balance a creative side hustle with a full-time job or other commitments?

Balancing a creative side hustle with a full-time job requires strong time management and setting clear boundaries. It's helpful to designate specific blocks of time each week for your side hustle and communicate your schedule with those around you. Many creative professionals use project management tools, batching similar tasks, and prioritizing high-impact work to stay organized and avoid burnout. Over time, developing routines and leveraging online communities for support can make it easier to maintain momentum and enjoy the creative process alongside your main responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a creative side hustle, and why are they important?

To thrive in a creative side hustle, you need strong creative skills in your chosen field (such as graphic design, writing, or photography) and a basic understanding of business fundamentals. Familiarity with digital tools like Adobe Creative Suite, social media platforms, and online marketplaces is often necessary. Self-motivation, time management, and effective communication set standout creative entrepreneurs apart. These skills are crucial for producing quality work, managing multiple projects, and building a loyal client base while balancing other commitments.

Job description

At Tracksuit, we're building an incredible product that our customers LOVE and use every day. We're looking for a bold, full-stack content creator to join Tracksuit Studio and help us build the biggest, most engaged marketing and brand audience in the world.

Our vision is to be used in every strategic growth conversation for the best consumer brands of today and tomorrow. We're doing this by becoming the common language to measure, understand and communicate the value of brand building. We've built beautiful, always-on, radically affordable brand tracking. At just under 6 years old, we're incredibly grateful and excited to be working with over 1,000 epic brands across the US, UK, AU & NZ, like Doordash, Adore Beauty, Bondi Sands, Milkrun and more.

Are you Tracksuit's new In-House Social Creator?

If you dream in memes, eat internet trends for breakfast, and can translate complex ideas into shareable, human-led content, you'll thrive here.

You'll take an idea from concept through to execution across multiple formats, mainly video, with a high level of craft. You're just as happy in front of the lens as deep in the edit, and you're allergic to buzzwords, jargon, and anything that smells like content-factory volume over real creative instinct.

Every week we publish the Inside Track, a feed of the biggest and most interesting brand metric movements across our data set. Your job is to take numbers most companies would bury in a slide and turn them into something people actually want to watch, laugh at, or share. Think: Claude quietly outpacing ChatGPT on awareness growth over the last twelve months, and finding the meme, the angle, or the internet-culture moment that makes that land.

You'll also play a lead creative role on our major global campaign activity throughout the year. This is a critical seat at the Tracksuit Studio table, a lean but mighty creative engine centralised out of New York. You'll work alongside a Video Editor, a Staff Writer/Editorial Manager, and a Social Media Manager, all reporting into the Head of Brand. This role owns idea-to-finished-video, in front of and behind the camera. The Social Media Manager handles channel strategy, scheduling, and community management, so you can focus on making things that stop the scroll.

We don't operate in a category where we're saving lives, so the risk of being boring is higher than the risk of saying something a bit weird. We want you to push the boat out.

You will be responsible for:

Content creation & execution

  • Take Tracksuit's weekly brand data insights (the Inside Track) and turn them into culturally relevant, funny, insightful video content.
  • Go from idea to live quickly, without getting stuck in approval layers, maintaining a high pace that gives you real-world feedback rather than chasing content-factory volume.
  • Play a lead creative role on major global campaign activity throughout the year.

Repurposing & format development

  • Repurpose longer-form content (blog posts, videos, interviews) into concise, compelling, social-first formats designed for maximum share-ability and "Mom I made this!" pride.

Trend & culture spotting

  • Use your good taste and creative instinct to spot cultural and social trends before they peak (or after, if that's the vibe) and know how to leverage them authentically for the brand.

Storytelling & audience growth

  • Entertain first, educate second, knowing people remember how content made them feel more than what it told them
  • Help grow Tracksuit's US audience, leading the charge on our mission to become a media company that happens to sell software
Key characteristics:
  • A portfolio full of lols: engaging video storytelling made end-to-end, not just edited from someone else's brief or ideation
  • Demonstrated autonomy: you identify opportunities and ship without much oversight
  • A natural instinct for internet culture and trends, with the ability to leverage them authentically for brand communication
  • Strong editorial judgement, turning complex data or technical topics into simple, compelling social content
  • Thinks in memes, talks like a real person, and is allergic to buzzwords and industry jargon
  • Possible background in media or journalism, building your own audience online, or a side hustle built around storytelling; open to raw talent from adjacent fields (comedy, UGC, consumer brands, and beyond!)
  • No B2B background required, and it might even help if you don't have one
You in TL;DR form:
You're a maker. A storyteller. A one-person production crew who can turn a spark of an idea into a piece of content that stops the scroll and makes people feel something. Whether you're filming in the wild, building it in the studio, or conjuring the impossible with AI, you bring stories to life with skill, instinct, and unexplainable joy.
$110,000 - $125,000 a year
We run comprehensive full-cycle comp reviews annually, as well as rolling promotions when you've levelled up. Your salary is supplemented with our best-in-class benefits package, as well as generous ESOP.
Why join us at Tracksuit?
As one of Australasia's fastest growing startups, we've hand-picked a world-class team of kind, ambitious, generous, and smart humans. But don't take our word for it!

At just over 4 years old, we're incredibly grateful and excited to be working with over 1000+ epic brands across USA, Canada, NZ, AU and UK, like David Jones, Tiffany & Co, frank body, Heaps Normal, Go-To-Skincare, Arnotts, MyFitnessPal, Bondi Sands and more.

Tracksuit's vision is to be used in every strategic growth conversation for the best consumer brands of today and tomorrow. We're doing this by becoming the common language to measure and communicate the value of brand building. We've built beautiful, always-on, radically affordable brand tracking - taking an old-school, $100k+ market research product and making it 10x easier to use and 10x more affordable.

We're a tight-knit, supportive, and ambitious team, driven to empower companies to use brand to drive success. Our culture thrives on complete transparency, trust, learning, and constant development and improvement.

Underpinning the experience are our great benefits, including:
Compensation: Competitive market rate remuneration, which is reviewed twice annually. Our radically transparent compensation policy ensures that salaries are fair across the entire team
Employee Share Option Program (ESOP): So that everyone on the team has a share in Tracksuit's success.
Progressive health and wellness benefits: Including an annual wellness bonus, access to a premium EAP platform, 401k and 6 weeks of paid annual leave.
Generous parental benefits: 12 weeks' paid parental leave for either caregiver, additional sick leave for IVF, gradual return to work.
A $1000 personal L&D budget for each Trackstar, plus additional growth opportunities including mentorships, speaking engagements, and travel.
Flexible working: We have beautiful offices in New York, London, Sydney and Auckland. We are office first but offer flexibility day to day and adopt a balanced approach to WFH/in-office work.

Most importantly, when you join you'll receive an epic Tracksuit which reflect our vibe. We are built for speed and comfort and we're practical and ready for anything.

FYI - We're pet-friendly in principle and practice - with the occasional four-legged visitor adding to the charm, not the chaos.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
