What is a creative operations manager?

Creative Operations Managers are professionals responsible for streamlining and optimizing the processes, workflows, and resources within creative teams or agencies. Their main goal is to enhance productivity, ensure timely project delivery, and facilitate effective communication among team members, clients, and stakeholders. They often oversee project management, budgeting, resourcing, and the implementation of best practices, allowing creative teams to focus on producing high-quality work. Creative Operations Managers play a key role in bridging the gap between creativity and operational efficiency.

How does a creative operations manager typically collaborate with creative and non-creative teams to streamline project workflows?

A Creative Operations Manager acts as a bridge between creative teams (like designers, writers, and producers) and non-creative departments (such as marketing, project management, and finance). They facilitate clear communication, set up efficient processes, and ensure everyone is aligned on timelines, resources, and deliverables. By implementing project management tools and standardizing workflows, they help teams avoid bottlenecks and achieve project goals more effectively. Regular status meetings, feedback loops, and performance metrics are common tools they use to keep all stakeholders informed and engaged.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative operations manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Operations Manager, you need strong project management skills, a solid understanding of creative processes, and often a degree in marketing, design, or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana or Trello, digital asset management systems, and workflow automation platforms is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and leadership are crucial soft skills to effectively coordinate teams and manage multiple projects. These skills ensure efficient project delivery, foster team collaboration, and drive the overall success of creative initiatives.

Job description

About LegalZoom

LegalZoom is on a mission to help people navigate the legal system with confidence and clarity. As a leader in online legal services for over 25 years, we combine technology, attorney-led solutions, and expertise to protect the aspirations, lives, and legacies of millions of customers. If you’re ready to contribute to a collaborative, diverse, and distributed group of creative thinkers and problem-solvers, we can’t wait to meet you.

This hybrid position will work remotely as well as onsite in our Sherman Oaks or Mountain View CA office.

Human-in-the-Loop

At LegalZoom, we operate with a human-in-the-loop model, where AI enhances—rather than replaces—human judgment. We believe the strongest outcomes for our customers come from thoughtfully integrating human expertise with AI capabilities to improve accuracy, safety, and decision-making.

To align with our AI-integrated operating model, our interview process will assess AI fluency, curiosity, and measurable/impactful workflow integration.
Overview

LegalZoom is seeking a Sr. Creative Operations Manager to help shape and scale how our Brand & Creative team works. This role sits at the intersection of people, process, and technology, building the systems that enable creative teams to deliver high-quality work efficiently and at scale.

You’ll own and manage our end-to-end creative operations system, from intake and prioritization through resource planning, project management, and delivery. As an AI-native company, we’re looking for someone who is excited to rethink traditional creative workflows and use AI, automation, and emerging technology to make our team faster and more effective.

This is a highly collaborative individual contributor role for someone who can move between systems thinking and hands-on execution—and create structure without getting in the way of great creative work.
You will

  • Own and continuously improve end-to-end creative operations, including intake, scoping, prioritization, workflows, and delivery across a high volume of multidisciplinary creative work.

  • Project manage complex creative initiatives from kickoff through delivery, developing project plans and work-back schedules while proactively managing milestones, dependencies, risks, and changing priorities.

  • Partner with creative leadership to forecast capacity, allocate resources, balance workloads, and make thoughtful tradeoffs across competing business priorities.

  • Champion AI across creative operations, using tools to rethink workflows, automate manual work, accelerate production, and establish scalable best practices.

  • Serve as a trusted operational partner and advocate for Brand & Creative, aligning cross-functional stakeholders on briefs, scope, priorities, timelines, feedback, and approvals.

  • Own and evolve our creative operations ecosystem, including project management and digital asset management tools, to improve adoption, visibility, efficiency, and scale.

  • Use operational data, retrospectives, and team feedback to identify trends, solve complex problems, and continuously improve how the team works.

  • Navigate competing priorities and challenging conversations with sound judgment and emotional intelligence, bringing stakeholders together around clear, practical solutions.

You have

  • 5-7+ years of experience in creative operations, marketing operations, project/program management, integrated production, or a related field, ideally within an in-house creative team.

  • Deep understanding of multidisciplinary creative workflows and demonstrated experience project managing complex, cross-functional work from planning through delivery.

  • A track record of building scalable processes, managing resources and capacity, and turning ambiguous operational challenges into practical solutions.

  • Hands-on experience with AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude, with curiosity and strong instincts for applying emerging technology to creative workflows.

  • Experience with project management platforms such as ClickUp, Workfront, Asana, or Monday.com, as well as digital asset management systems.

  • Excellent communication, judgment, and emotional intelligence, with the ability to build trust, influence decisions, negotiate tradeoffs, and work effectively with creative teams, cross-functional partners, senior leaders, and executives.

The salary range for this role is $112,500-$200,000. Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
