Job description

Description

Floral + Container Designer

Stem Studio | Moana Nursery | Reno, Nevada

$20-$25+ per hour, depending on experience | Full-Time + Benefits | Part-time optional

Flowers. Plants. Gardens. One Creative Studio.

If you're a creative person who sees possibilities in flowers, plants, color and texture, this may not be the design job you expected to find in Reno.

Stem Studio at Moana Nursery is looking for a talented Floral + Container Designer to help us create beautiful, distinctive designs using cut flowers, indoor plants and seasonal garden material.

This isn't a traditional florist position-and it isn't a typical garden center position.

We're bringing floral design, indoor plant design and outdoor container design together under one creative studio, and we're looking for someone with a strong design eye who wants to help us continue building it.

What You'll Design

Your work will cross three areas:

Floral Design
Seasonal arrangements, hand-tied bouquets, everyday and special-occasion designs, weddings and events.

Indoor Plant Design
Living arrangements and planted containers using houseplants, orchids, succulents and seasonal materials.

Garden Container Design
Outdoor seasonal containers combining plants with strong principles of color, texture, proportion and composition.

You'll also have opportunities to work with Moana Grown flowers, foliage, branches and botanical materials grown by our own teams in Nevada and Oregon.

That means what's growing and what's in season can become part of what we create.

We're Looking for a Designer, Not Just a Resume

The right person may come from floral design-but that's not the only path we're interested in.

You might have experience in:

  • Floral design
  • Wedding or event florals
  • Garden or seasonal container design
  • Interior plant design
  • Horticulture or nursery work with a strong design component
  • Visual merchandising or another hands-on creative field

What matters most is that you have a developed eye for design and the ability to work creatively with natural materials.

You understand-or are eager to deepen your understanding of-color, proportion, movement and texture. You notice details. You care how things are presented. And when you're surrounded by beautiful raw materials, your instinct is to start imagining what you could make with them.

We don't expect one person to arrive as an expert in flowers, houseplants and garden containers. If you bring strong design instincts, curiosity and relevant hands-on experience, we can help expand your knowledge into the other areas of the Studio.

What You'll Do

This is a hands-on creative position. You'll:

  • Design distinctive floral arrangements and hand-tied bouquets
  • Create indoor planted arrangements and containers
  • Design seasonal outdoor garden containers
  • Work with fresh, seasonal and farm-grown materials
  • Contribute ideas for new products and seasonal collections
  • Support weddings, events and custom orders
  • Merchandise flowers, plants, containers and finished designs
  • Work within recipes and price points while developing new concepts
  • Help maintain excellent standards for freshness, plant health and presentation
  • Collaborate with our garden center, growing, marketing and retail teams
  • Help us continue improving the Stem Studio customer experience

And because beautiful work starts long before the finished arrangement, you'll also participate in the fundamentals: processing and conditioning flowers, caring for plants, organizing materials, cleaning work areas, watering and lifting/moving product.

This is a working studio. Everyone contributes.

Help Us Build What's Next

Stem Studio is evolving, and that's part of what makes this opportunity exciting.

We're not looking for someone who simply wants to reproduce the same arrangements every day.

We're looking for someone who wants to create, learn and contribute ideas.

The right designer will have opportunities to influence seasonal collections, product development, merchandising, workshops and the overall look and feel of Stem Studio.

If you've been looking for a creative career in Reno that combines flowers, plants, gardening and design, we'd like to meet you.

Compensation + Benefits

$20-$25+ per hour, depending on experience.

We recognize that exceptional design talent doesn't always fit neatly into a predetermined range. Higher compensation may be considered for a candidate who brings significant floral, plant or container design experience, a strong portfolio and the ability to help elevate and grow Stem Studio.

This is a full-time position with benefits.

About Stem Studio + Moana Nursery

Stem Studio is part of Moana Nursery, a family-owned horticultural company founded in 1967. Our work spans garden centers, landscape services and growing operations, including Moana Grown production in Nevada and Oregon.

We're building Stem Studio around a simple idea:

Flowers, plants and gardens belong in the same creative conversation.

Show Us What You Can Do

Portfolio or examples of creative work strongly encouraged.

Don't have a formal floral portfolio? That's okay.

If your experience is in plants, garden containers, visual merchandising or another related design field, show us examples of your work. Photos from your phone are fine-we want to see your eye, your creativity and what you can make.

Please apply with your resume and examples of your work.

If this sounds like the creative opportunity you've been looking for, we'd like to hear from you. Full-Time + Benefits
