Located on a beautiful 33-acre campus in Laurel, Maryland, Woodland Job Corps provides young adults with the opportunity to earn their high school diploma or equivalent while gaining hands-on training in high-demand career fields, including Culinary Arts, Security and Protective Services, HVAC, Landscaping, Electrical, Hospitality, and Building & Construction.

Position Summary

The Recreation Specialist supports the delivery of a comprehensive recreation program designed to promote student engagement, health, wellness, creativity, teamwork, and leadership development. This role provides supervision, coordinates activities, and helps create a safe and positive environment where students can thrive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and support structured recreation events and activities that promote physical, creative, and social development.
  • Plan and facilitate recreation and leadership programs in collaboration with Center departments and community resources.
  • Support evening programming and student engagement activities.
  • Supervise students while promoting safety, respect, accountability, and positive behavior.
  • Maintain accurate student participation records and required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety guidelines, program requirements, and student accountability standards.
  • Maintain recreation equipment, supplies, and facilities, including inventory tracking and organization.
  • Recommend equipment purchases and complete minor equipment repairs as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming recreation environment.
  • Plan, prioritize, and complete assignments effectively while meeting program goals.
  • Mentor and model Career Success Standards by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and leadership.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with youth, recreation programs, student activities, or community programs preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate young adults in a positive environment.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
