What is creative design?

Creative design is the process of using artistic skills and imagination to develop visual concepts, graphics, and layouts for various media such as advertising, branding, websites, and products. Creative designers combine elements like color, typography, and imagery to communicate ideas effectively and engage audiences. This field often involves working closely with clients or teams to bring a vision to life, ensuring that the design aligns with the intended message and goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative designer?

To thrive as a Creative Designer, you need strong visual design skills, proficiency in design principles, and typically a degree in graphic design or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and experience with digital design platforms are essential. Creative problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication help you stand out in collaborating with clients and teams. These skills are crucial for producing visually compelling work that meets client objectives and drives brand success.

How does a creative designer typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Creative Designers often work closely with marketing, product, and development teams to ensure that design concepts align with overall business objectives and brand guidelines. This collaboration may involve brainstorming sessions, regular feedback meetings, and iterative design reviews to refine visual assets or campaigns. Effective communication and openness to feedback are key, as Creative Designers must balance their creative vision with the strategic needs of other departments. This teamwork not only enhances the final product but also offers opportunities to learn from different perspectives within the organization.

Job description

About the Role
The Manager, Graphic Design, is a hands-on creative with expertise in print production and digital communication, responsible for bringing the Ouimet Fund story to life across print and digital channels. Reporting to the Director of Development, this person leads graphic design efforts across all departments, developing creative concepts that translate strategy into compelling visual storytelling, and ensures the organization's brand goals are executed with consistency, quality, and purpose.

What You'll Do

·     Design and produce print materials, including event programs, donor communications, annual reports, direct mail, signage, and collateral, with attention to layout, typography, and print-ready file prep

·     Create static digital assets, including email graphics, social media graphics, web banners, and presentation materials, that extend the brand consistently beyond print

·     Plan and execute photo shoots for marketing, product, and branding needs, including setting up lighting and composition, directing subjects, and editing/retouching final images to align with brand guidelines.

·     Manage the full print production process: color proofing, paper stock selection, and press checks with outside vendors

·     Manage email marketing: plan and maintain email marketing calendar, build/create content, and schedule distribution to ensure proper cadence

·     Support marketing and communication strategy with the collection and analysis of email marketing metrics

·     Work with the Director of Development and other departments to translate strategic direction into brand and mission-first creative

·     Collaborate closely with the Manager, Video and Social Content, to ensure visual consistency and a cohesive brand story across static and video/digital content

·     Ensure projects move from concept to completion on time, on brand, and with quality

·     Maintain brand consistency across all organizational channels and touchpoints, both print and digital

·     Perform all other duties as assigned and required

What We're Looking For

·     Bachelor’s degree with a focus on creative design plus 2-4 years of experience in graphic design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating print design, digital asset creation, creative concepting, and storytelling

·     Proven ability to take a strategic brief and develop original creative concepts and narratives, not just execute existing direction

·     High-level print design skills: layout and typography for multi-page documents, understanding of CMYK color, bleed/trim/safety, paper stocks, and finishing techniques (foil, embossing, die-cutting, etc.)

·     Skilled in designing static digital assets (email, social, web, digital ads) optimized for their respective platforms and specs

·     Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) required, with InDesign fluency emphasized

·     Proficiency in photography (camera operation, lighting, and composition) and photo editing software such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, with the ability to produce polished, on-brand images for both print and digital use

·     Experience managing vendor relationships with commercial printers, including press checks and proofing

·     Organized, deadline-driven, and proactive in communication

·     Comfortable working in a small, mission-driven organization where everyone wears multiple hats and supports each other

·     Familiarity with project management systems is a plus

·     Prior professional or personal experience in or around the game of golf is a plus

Benefits

·     Hiring Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000 based on the candidate

·     Annual Review with potential bonus

·     Flexible hybrid work schedule (3 days in office in Norton, MA)

·     Reimbursed work travel

·     401(k) plan and match, fully vested upon hire

·     14 paid holidays

·     Health care, dental, vision plans (80% paid by Ouimet Fund)

·     Accrued paid vacation and sick time upon hire

·     Disability and life insurance coverage

Send a cover letter outlining your specific interest in this position, resume, and portfolio link by August 26. We look forward to hearing from you!
