POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Manager, Design reports to the Regional Director, Design
  • Can be located in any of the following cities: Cleveland or Columbus OH, Pittsburg, PA, Lenexa, KS, Omaha, NE, Bedford Park/Chicago, IL
  • Full-Time
  • Remote, but candidate must be located in one of the locations listed above

The Design Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership and support to the Design team, overseeing the creative direction, and customer experience strategy. This role involves managing Designers and Senior Designers, ensuring the production of high-quality design deliverables, and collaborating on new design projects. The Design Manager plays a pivotal role in maintaining project budgets, meeting customer expectations, and driving departmental strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Day to day management of Design Team to include the following:
    • Oversee distribution of Design Team workload
    • Ensure all deadlines are met and accuracy of work being produced
    • Review of all outgoing design proposals and contracts
    • Promote preferred vendors throughout design process and ensure spec credits are obtained
    • Weekly status reporting on successful and prospective projects
    • Monthly forecasting of design revenue
    • Ensure contracts are executed and all billings and revenue are recognized timely
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training of all new Design Team Members
  • Instill and cultivate a culture of superior customer service
  • Collaborate with Design team and BIM Manager on drawing standards and training needs to ensure standards are being followed
  • Coordinate with Manager, Contract Services Project Management to implement best practices for design/project management team
  • Responsible for training Design/Project Managers in all aspects of construction process; equipment and shop drawing review, expediting and installation, and closeout procedure
  • Promote vendor training opportunities to Design Team and ensure their attendance
  • Develop and maintain strong positive relationships with key customers, architects, general contractors, vendors, and company personnel:
  • Be a strategic and innovative partner to customers
  • Attend customer meetings to explain and sell TriMark’s design services
  • Generate design proposals for new opportunities
  • Advocate, demonstrate, and encourage others to have a sales-minded approach to all one does as we are a selling organization
  • Work closely with Regional Sales Managers to ensure strategic initiatives are aligned between departments
  • Remain current in technology, vendor, and product knowledge through attending seminars, training, and participating in trade association meetings and being a leader in such areas to the department
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ascertain customers’ needs and preferences through effective listening and recommending appropriate foodservice equipment
  • Create efficient foodservice equipment floor plans that meet customers’ budget
  • Generate documents/drawings from AutoCAD and Revit to submit for construction/bidding purposes
  • Coordinate with architects and engineers, estimators, installers and appropriate construction trades
  • Prepare foodservice equipment budgets
  • Attend job meetings as required
  • Review quotes and approve manufacturer shop drawings for accuracy of proper equipment description and physical requirements
  • Conduct site visits and punch lists per customer requirements
  • Finish jobs in a timely manner, including but not limited to punch lists, final billing, change orders, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree (or higher) in design, food service, or a related field, or equivalent military or practical experience.
  • 3+ years of design management experience.
  • 5+ years' experience in a designer role in the commercial food service industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of commercial food service design and project types (education, hospitality, restaurants, etc.).
  • Proven ability and experience as a Design subject matter expert.
  • Advanced working knowledge of general construction, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and project management.
  • Demonstrated experience with Autodesk software including AutoCAD and Revit preferred.
  • Experience in utilization of MS Office Suite, Adobe, Sketch-up, and AutoQuote360.
  • Team management and leadership experience.
  • Ability to complete CFSP within the first 3 years of employment.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check post offer acceptance.

Compensation includes the posted base salary range and does not reflect potential commission, incentive, bonus, or other additional compensation opportunities, where applicable. Total compensation is determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, geographic location, and other job-related compensatory factors.
