Position Summary: A Fire Protection Engineer EIT will perform fire protection engineering services on multi-discipline building design projects of small to large scope for commercial and government facilities, as well as single discipline fire protection engineering projects of small to large scope. 

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification. 

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

  • Performing various aspects of fire protection design as directed by a Senior Fire Protection Engineer including conceptual studies, program requirements, design analyses, calculations, systems selection and layout for building design
  • Preparation of programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed
  • Coordination and communication with design team members to ensure the fire protection design details integrate properly with the work of all other project disciplines
  • Preparation of marketing and presentation materials as directed
  • Performing various services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids as directed
  • Performing various services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directed
  • Complying with quality control policies and procedures
  • Learn and implement department and company standards
  • Develop analysis and design skills
  • Participating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from the Department Director, Managing Principals, Project Managers, Design Managers, Senior Fire Protection Engineers and senior management
  • Working with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers and landscape architects

Required Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from an ABET accredited university or a post-graduate degree in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination
  • Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 48 months of being hired.
  • 0-4 years of specific, post-graduation, fire protection engineering experience that includes experience with code analysis, design calculations, coordination with other design team members, and experience in responding to construction phase queries and submittals.
  • Experience and a working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards

Preferred Experience

  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices and pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirable
  • Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process
  • Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to utilize the software in the development of project documents and interact with other project team members in their use of the software is highly desirable.
  • Successful completion of at least one student internship is desirable.
  • Prior experience in an Engineering or multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering firm is desirable.

The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed to perform assigned duties.
