The main difference between a Creative Design Associate and a Graphic Designer lies in experience level, scope of work, and educational requirements. Creative Design Associates often have an associate's degree and focus on supporting design projects, while Graphic Designers typically hold a bachelor's degree and handle more complex design tasks independently. Both roles are integral to creative teams in marketing and advertising industries.

What is a creative design associate?

Creative Design Associates are professionals who support the design team in developing visual concepts and materials for a variety of media. They assist with tasks such as creating graphics, layouts, and presentations, as well as contributing fresh ideas for branding and marketing campaigns. Their role often involves collaboration with other designers, marketing teams, and clients to ensure cohesive and effective visual communication. Creative Design Associates typically work in advertising agencies, design studios, or in-house creative departments across different industries.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a creative design associate?

To thrive as a Creative Design Associate, you need a strong grasp of visual design principles, creativity, and proficiency with design software, usually supported by a degree in graphic design or a related field. Expertise in tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with digital asset management systems are typically required. Strong communication, collaboration, and time management skills set outstanding candidates apart in this role. These competencies are crucial for producing high-quality, impactful visual content that meets both client expectations and project deadlines.

How does a creative design associate typically collaborate with other departments on projects?

As a Creative Design Associate, collaboration with departments such as marketing, product management, and sales is a core part of the role. You’ll often attend brainstorming sessions, share design drafts for feedback, and adapt visuals based on input from stakeholders to ensure alignment with brand goals and campaign objectives. Effective communication and openness to feedback are essential, as projects frequently require iterative revisions and cross-functional teamwork. This collaborative environment not only enhances creative outcomes but also provides great learning opportunities from different perspectives.

Job description

Please note this role is a hybrid ONSITE position in our Needham HQ location.About the Role

At SharkNinja, we don't just launch campaigns; we build the future of consumer design. We are looking for an Associate Creative Director (ACD), Design to help define what the Ninja brand looks like next.

You won't just inherit static briefs-you will work upstream with product development, consumer insights, and brand marketing to shape raw innovation into compelling visual narratives. From defining product identities from 0 to 1 to engineering scalable visual ecosystems, you will ensure our breakthrough products dominate across every consumer touchpoint.
What You'll Do

  • Shape Product Identities From 0 to 1: Work upstream with insights and product engineering to define the positioning, naming, visual identity, and design language for groundbreaking new product lines.

  • Build Scalable Visual Ecosystems: Think in systems, not single assets. Build cohesive design platforms that scale seamlessly across Packaging, DTC, Amazon, Retail, Social, OTT/Video, and Experiential marketing.

  • Direct High-Impact Production: Lead and execute visual strategy across multi-media channels; act as the lead art director on photo and video shoots to ensure execution matches strategic intent.

  • Champion an AI-Native Workflow: Experiment boldly with Figma, AI generation tools, and emerging platforms to dramatically accelerate concepting, exploration, and rapid iteration.

  • Mentor & Elevate Talent: Direct, inspire, and develop a high-performing team of junior to mid-level designers, fostering a culture of high craft, ownership, and collaborative excellence.

  • Pitch and Partner Cross-Functionally: Translate complex strategic goals into highly visual presentations, successfully selling bold creative concepts to executive-level leadership.

Qualifications
  • 8+ Years of Experience: Proven track record within a fast-paced creative agency or an innovative, fast-moving in-house creative department (direct experience in consumer product marketing is a major plus).

  • A Stellar, Multi-Channel Portfolio: Showcases elite conceptual thinking, a high bar for visual taste, and a deep understanding of packaging, digital commerce (DTC, Amazon), platform-native social content, and motion design.

  • A Systems Thinker: You look at a product and immediately visualize how it thrives as a holistic brand universe, rather than an isolated ad campaign.

  • Fluency in Modern Workflows: Advanced mastery of Figma and Adobe Creative Suite. You actively integrate AI tools into your daily ideation and production processes.

  • Thrives in High-Velocity Environments: You are highly adaptable, prolific with ideas, and energized by rapid prototyping and tight deadlines. You are not "precious" about early concepts-you prioritize finding the breakthrough story that works.

What Does Success Look Like?
  • In 30 Days: You have fully immersed yourself in our Creative Design Hub, established deep relationships with your writing, product, and brand partners, and mastered the current visual brand guidelines for the Ninja portfolio.

  • In 90 Days: You are actively working upstream on upcoming product launches, successfully taking a raw technical brief and spinning it into 3+ distinct, high-impact visual identity concepts. Your direct reports feel supported, clear, and energized by your creative direction.

  • In 1 Year: You have successfully brought major new Ninja products to market with distinct, 5-star consumer-rated packaging, retail, and digital footprints. Your design frameworks have shortened the distance between prototype and performance-driven campaign execution, pushing our NYC studio's output to an "Outrageously Extraordinary" level.

Why SharkNinja?

SharkNinja is an innovative global powerhouse behind two multi-billion-dollar brands, Shark and Ninja. We were proudly named to TIME's List of the 100 Most Influential Companies, and we are growing at an unprecedented pace.

  • An AI-Native Culture: We don't run from the future; we build it. We actively expect and empower our teams to use modern tools to move faster, explore deeper, and remove mechanical friction so you can focus on pure creative genius.

  • Limitless Impact and Velocity: We are product-led, consumer-centric, and idea-driven. If you have a breakthrough idea, there is zero red tape to stop you. We support all of our associates in bringing their authentic selves to work, taking massive ownership, and experiencing true career acceleration.
