Engineer
Creative Composites Group - Composite Advantage - Dayton, Ohio
Composite Advantage is part of the composites molding division of Creative Composites Group (CCG). Composite Advantage delivers design, engineering and manufacturing of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites. CCG is the leading innovator of structural composites for the infrastructure market. Many of our products are the first composite solutions to multiple markets including: waterfront, rail, bridges and utility infrastructure. The Creative Composites Group consists of U.S.-based composite companies within Hill and Smith Holdings PLC. Hill & Smith Holdings PLC is an international group with leading positions in the design and manufacture of infrastructure products.
An Engineer identifies the correct design approach and key manufacturing technologies required to engineer prefabricated FRP infrastructure composites. They also partner with the fabrication group to communicate the design methodology and act as the technical process engineer for fabrication.
A portion of their time is spent informing sales and marketing through cost modeling analysis and technical white papers where needed to support the organization. The engineer works within the engineering group on the execution of engineering projects at the direction of the Engineering Manager.
Essential Functions
  • Engineering design work and calculations for prefabricated fiberglass structures (bridges, waterfront, military) per contract terms submitted by customer. (20%)
  • Support manufacturing engineering with manufacturing fixture and equipment development. (20%)
  • Work with drafting personnel to create and edit drawings in AutoCad (15%)
  • Work with production and QC personnel on fabrication questions including manufacturing engineering clarifications and tolerancing definition. (10%)
  • Create technical submittal packages for Composite Advantage product lines including relevant analysis (varies by project), draft RFI's, and shipping/cribbing diagrams as required to provide to customer as part of the contract (10%)
  • Support work instructions to communicate fabrication methods to production personnel (10%)
  • Develop and perform material testing as required to support the launch of products. (5%)
  • Work with sales and marketing team to provide technical solutions and pre-sale submittals as needed. Work with marketing team to provide technical inputs for marketing collateral (5%)
  • Partner with project management group to work with customers via phone conference and occasional in-person visits to identify and solve key FRP engineering problems. (5%)
  • Position will work with customers for project front end development and will be involved with documentation during submittal, development and approval process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment
This job operates mostly in a professional office environment. This job will also require time in a manufacturing environment. The employee will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, forklift movements and overhead cranes. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift items up to 25 pounds.
Travel
Occasional travel is expected for this position. The employee must have a valid driver's license.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel
  • Hard working, organized, technically sound and works well in a group environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated individual
  • High attention to detail
  • Time management skills and the ability to work independently and as a team
