Job description

Description POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision of a professional engineer, performs engineering planning, design, construction, maintenance and operational duties for transportation and utility infrastructure in the right of way, water and wastewater treatment plant facilities and systems, as well as environmental and landfill engineering functions. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Prepares and reviews engineering plans and designs for bridges, roadways, utilities, water treatment plant facilities and systems, and wastewater treatment plant facilities systems, as well as environmental and landfill engineering functions Provides engineering analysis and oversight on engineering operations and maintenance Prepares and reviews reports and studies to identify and recommend engineering solutions Prepares proposals and specifications for new construction and facilities repair projects Performs engineering and related studies, analysis, creates technical evaluations, reports, and engineering recommendations Provides oversight and directions to contractors during construction or maintenance projects and interprets contract specifications; Attends internal, external, project, and public meetings Prepares grant applications and cost estimates Communicates with the public as needed regarding engineering projects and operations May supervise subordinate staff engaged in performing paraprofessional engineering work (Examples: drafters, inspectors, construction quality and compliance monitors, and technicians) REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: Design, surveying, and engineering principles and practices. The rules, laws, and regulations, pertaining to assigned sections.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS: Level 1 (Hourly Rate- $36.967) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or be enrolled in the last semester of an accredited Engineering or Engineering Technology Program. Verification of graduation from the Engineering or Engineering Technology Program must be provided prior to appointment. Position assignment at the Department of Transportation requires the applicant to have obtained a Bachelor - of Science in Civil Engineering or be enrolled in the last semester of an accredited Civil Engineering Program

Verification of graduation from the Civil Engineering Program must be provided prior to appointment. Position assignment at the Division of Environmental Services requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in environmental, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related area or be enrolled in the last semester of an accredited Civil, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering Program. Verification of graduation from the Engineering Program must be provided prior to appointment.

Level 2 (Hourly Rate-$38.821) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. Position assignment at the Department of Transportation requires the applicant to have obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Position assignment at the Division of Environmental Services requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in environmental), Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related area

Three (3) years of experience performing engineering work Level 3 (Hourly Rate- $40.685) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. Position assignment at the Department of Transportation requires the applicant to have obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Position assignment at the Division of Environmental Services requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in environmental), Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related area

Seven (7) years of experience performing engineering work ADDITIONAL OR SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must possess a valid driver's license PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of an engineer in training certificate is preferred.
